HPV Vaccination campaign launch postponed in North Sikkim due to heavy monsoons and bad weather.

The HPV Vaccination campaign in the North District is being launched on 2.8.18.The launch has been delayed by a day,due to the heavy monsoons and bad weather conditions. In the rest of the State the campaign is being launched on 30.7.18.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen – 2018 launched in Sikkim

Gangtok, 30th July 2018.: The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling launched the ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen – 2018’ in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister for RM&DD, Shri S. B. Subedi and other dignitaries today at the State Level Sammelan for Rural and Urban Local Bodies – 2018 held at the Manan Kendra, Gangtok.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister in his address urged everyone to keep all the villages and urban areas clean.
The Hon’ble Minister, RM&DD asked the ADCs (Development), BDOs and the PRI members to put all their efforts to ensure that all the districts of Sikkim perform to the best in the survey.
The Secretary, RM&DD while applauding the efforts of the PRI members in rural sanitation, implored all the PRI members as well as the Department officials to put in their concerted effort during the survey. He apprised them that the survey presented a wonderful opportunity to bring even more acclaim to the State in the field of sanitation.
The ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen – 2018’ is a pan-India survey initiated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India to develop ranking of the 680 districts based on their rural sanitation status. The survey would be based on a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters including data from the SBM-G IMIS, district-level surveys of public places like schools, Anganwadis, PHCs, Haat bazaars, Panchayat and citizen’s perception of Swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the program.
An independent agency has been hired by the Ministry which will visit the villages to undertake the survey of public places and obtain citizens’ feedback. As part of the Survekshan, States and Districts will be ranked for their sanitation and cleanliness status. The survey will be conducted from the August 1st to 31st, 2018 following which, top performing States and Districts will be awarded nationally on October 2nd, 2018.

HPV PROGRAM STARTS IN WEST SIKKIM.

Gyalshing, 30 July, 2018 (IPR) : The District Collector, West, Dr. A. B Karki launched the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)Vaccination today here at the auditorium hall of Girls Sr. Sec. School, Kyongsha for the prevention of cervical cancer.
Dr. Karki stated that the program was started with the motto of making West Sikkim Cervical cancer free district and said that the state government and the Health Department are commited towards the prevention of cervical cancer. He also mentioned that the state government has started this noble cause at the state’s cost and the vaccine will protect girl children and make our district cervical cancer free.
Further, Marathon Man of Sikkim , Mr. Amar Subba expressed his gratitude towards the organising committee and congratulated them for the noble initiative . He urged the gathering to lead an healthy and positive life everyday.
The programme was also attended by Addl. Director HRDD, CDPO(ICDS), Sr. Welfare Officer, DRCHO HEALTH, Principal(GSSS, Kyongsha), AEO(HRDD),Other health officials, school faculties , ASHA and the guardians of the students.
A total of 903 girl child were vaccinated today at the program.

HPV vaccination campaign commences in Namchi

Namchi, 30 July (IPR): Along with the rest of the State, the South district headquarter, Namchi, kick started amidst much gusto with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign at Namchi Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GGSSS) today. The campaign organized by South District Health Society was inaugurated by Executive Councillor, Namchi Municipal Council, Ms. Bandhana Rai.

Present amongst others were ADC (South), Mr. Satyan Rai, DMS (South), Dr. D.C. Pradhan, ASP (South), Ms. Linda Palmu, Principal (NGGSSS), Ms. Pema Yolmo, representatives from medical fraternity and a large number of students from various schools.

It was informed that a total of 6500 vaccines have been received by the South district from the State Health Department wherein 6048 numbers of beneficiaries will be vaccinated with HPV.

It may be mentioned here that Sikkim becomes the first State in the country to launch the HPV vaccination campaign to combat cervical cancer among women in the State. The vaccination will be administered to girls aged between 09-14 years which is free of cost to protect them against cervical cancer, the second most common cancer in women worldwide.

SLA Speaker Mr.K.N Rai inaugurated the commencement of courses at Sikkim’s First Engineering college, S.I.S.T.

Jorethang, 28th July (IPR): SLA Speaker cum Area MLA Poklok Kamrang Mr.K.N Rai inaugurated the commencement of courses at Sikkim’s First Engineering college, Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology(S.I.S.T) at CCT Chisopani premises today.

Present on the inaugural event were Minister of HRDD and Law Mr. R.B Subba, Additional Chief Secretary, HRDD Mr. G.P. Upadhyaya ,IAS, Special Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, HRDD Mr. D.K Pradhan alongside CCCT and SIST Principal Mr. Pravin Pradhan, SDM Jorethang Mr. Tshering Bhutia, BDO Jorethang Mr. Prem. K. Rai along with South district HRDD officials, Panchayat members, HOD’s, Heads of Schools and students of CCCT and SIST Chisopani.

Chief Guest of the event, Mr. K.N Rai extended his warm greetings to the newly inducted students and the administration of SIST on the historic occasion of being Sikkim’s first ever Engineering College. Mr. K.N Rai stayed that the overall development of the country largely depends on technological advancement and Technical Education in the State has a big role to play in this regard. He also added that the education sector of Sikkim has risen phenomenally in the last few years under the State Government and blessed leadership of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. With more than 1500 government schools, 471 private schools and 12 colleges that impart good professional education, the Chief Guest stated that Sikkim is witnessing a imposing advancement in all spheres. Mr. Rai also called for collective coordination and cooperation between the locals of Chisopani and the administration of SIST for sustainability of the educational institute that will bring about further development in the region. He also urged the students to realize the possibilities at all educational levels and incorporate hard work, dedication, and sacrifice in their lifestyle to attain success in their lives.

Guest of Honor Mr. R. B Subba also addressed the gathering wherein he conveyed his best to the students and parents alike who have their children enrolled in the first Engineering Institute of the state. Showing keenness and optimism that the college will churn out successful computer and civil engineers in the future, the Minister imparted the key ingredients of an ideal education system.

Additional Chief Secretary, HRDD Mr. G.P. Upadhyaya presented a brief report on the establishment of SIST where he mentioned that the college was established under RUSA, a project of MHRD, Government of India on 1st December 2015 and is a technical establishment approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E). He also spoke about the quest of the institute to generate competent human resource and the idea of reinforcing stimulus to achieve desirable results from the students studying under SIST.

At the onset of the program, the Chief Guest and dignitaries present visited the various facilities at the SIST campus and interacted with the newly enrolled students of the engineering college.

Ceremonial Salute for the Hon’ble Governor

Gangtok, 28th July (IPR): Hon’ble Governor, Shri Shriniwas Patil granted audience to a group of 65 NCC Officials and Cadets led by Commanding Officer, Colonel Mangat Saini, 3rd NCC Battalion Sikkim at New Raj Bhawan today. It was the occasion of formal call on by 3rd Sikkim NCC Battalion to the Hon’ble Governor on the eve of completion of five years at office by the Hon’ble Governor in Sikkim.

Shri H.P Dhakal, the Additional Secretary, Human Resource Development Department (HRDD), Principal of N.B Bhandari Degree College, Dr. Bina Pradhan, Principals of West Point Senior Secondary School and Modern Senior Secondary School were present at the gathering.

Colonel Mangat Saini delivered the welcome address and presented a slide show highlighting the activities and achievements of the battalion. He informed that today the strength of the 3rd Sikkim Battalion NCC was 9200.

The Hon’ble Governor in his addressed expressed his joy and gratitude stating that it filled him with nostalgia about his own NCC days. He spoke about his days and his achievements as the Senior Under Officer in the 1st Maharashtra Armoured Squadron in Pune.
He said that it gave him immense joy to know that Sikkim with over four decades of NCC history was expanding into the horizon of unity and discipline and was assured that the cadets would go on to do their best in the future.

He spoke about the importance of training for the cadets as it would broaden their outlook and prepare them to face the obstacles in life. He also stated that the NCC cadets had an advantage to join the armed forces and take the opportunity to serve the nation.

He complimented and congratulated the 3rd Sikkim NCC Battalion and wished the cadets luck and blessings for their future endeavour reminding them that no matter what profession they chose, their NCC background would be a valuable element for them to excel. He concluded his address by urging the cadets to use their learning for the benefit of their family, society and the nation.

NCC Cadets of N.B Bhandari Degree College presented a short cultural programme displaying dances of the various communities of Sikkim.

The 3rd Sikkim Battalion presented a memento to the Hon’ble Governor and the Governor returned the gesture by offering a memento to the Battalion in return. The guests, officers and cadets then offered khadas to the Hon’ble Governor.

Colonel Saini delivered the vote of thanks.

One week Residential Programme on Government`s Policy and Schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes Community organized at Paljor Stadium concluded.

Gangtok, July 28 (IPR): A week long Residential Programme on Government`s Policy and Schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes Community organized by Biswakarma (Kami) Kalyan Samity (BKKS) at Paljor Stadium concluded, today. The valedictory function was graced by the Minister for Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare, Information and Public Relations and Printings Deptts. Mr. Arjun Kumar Ghatani.

Altogether forty-six students participated in the training programme wherein participants were enlightened on various schemes including Chief Minister`s Start-up Scheme, Chief Minister`s Meritorious Scholorship Schemes, Dr. BR Ambedkar Scholorship, Atrocities Act against SC community, Green Mission, Organic Farming, Policies and Schemes under Social Justice, Empowerment and Welfare Department, Health and Tourism Department.

Subjects like Art of Living, lifestyle with religion, power of mental health, self realisation, time management, personality development, hindu culture and tradition, values of games and sports, planning & management of daily activities were also included in their training session.

Minister A.K. Ghatani, in his address, congratulated BKKS for organizing such a training session to inform and educate entire SC community about policies and schemes implemented by the state govt under leadership of Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling. He also underlined schemes including Dr. BR Ambedkar Scholarship Scheme and provision of free education upto college level and stated that the newly initiated educational policy of the state govt is invaluable for uplifting people from SC community and all other underprivileged families. He also mentioned about notable achievements made by the some of the exemplary products of government schools and enlightened students on possibilities to embrace ambitious dream through existing academic standard of government schools in Sikkim.

Minister also urged BKKS to join hands together with all communities and said that they should not feel stigmatised, inferior and confined within themselves. Individuals should come forward to secure position on merit basis, he added. He also informed about the various infrastructural development carried out by the state govt for the community of Scheduled Caste community like ongoing construction of SC Bhawan, SC Research Centre etc. Further he encouraged trainees towards entrepreneurship and self employment sector. Later the Minister also handed over certificates to the participants.

Trainees also participated in Yoga session that is being organized every morning under the banner of Nava Chetna Siveer. Plantation and cleanliness drive were also organized in the stadium premises.

The programme was also addressed by retired govt.employ. Dr Bela Cintury.
Dr. RB Biswakarma also enlightened house on community based data and proposed vote of thanks.

Bhavishya Bharat in collaboration with the HANS Foundation conducted Pediatric health camp at Mangan District Hospital.

Mangan 27th July (IPR): Bhavishya Bharat a development organization in collaboration with the HANS Foundation conducted a day long Pediatric health camp at Mangan District Hospital . Dr. H.K Chettri Child Specialist from Gangtok conducted the camp .Around 76 children received free consultations and medicines during the camp. Bhavishya Bharat is a nonprofit organization with its headquarters in Hyderabad .The organization has been providing primary health care services ,quality education ,livelihood ,Infra works development and social development services in remote locations of Sikkim ,Arunachal Pradesh, Chattishgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana. Its vision is to improve the quality of life of communities through holistic and integrated social development thereby enabling communities to become self reliant. The organisation has a mobile medical unit named ‘Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels’ with screening facilities and provides primary health services on a regular basis to 20 villages in North District and 40 villages in the West District of Sikkim. Bhavishya Bharat had also undertaken the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R)activities of The Teesta Urja Hydel Power Project which is a Government of Sikkim owned enterprise.
