Coordination meeting for the preparation of the Independence Day Celebration 2018 held at Green Park, Jorethang

Jorethang, 27th July : (IPR) Minister for Healthcare, Human Services and Family Welfare and IPR Department cum-Area MLA of 08-Salghari Zoom Constituency Mr. Arjun Kumar Ghatani chaired a coordination meeting at Green Park, Jorethang for the preparation of the Independence Day Celebration 2018, today.

During the meeting, the Independence Day Celebration Committee 2018 was formed under the Chief Patronship of Area MLA Mr Arjun Kumar Ghatani. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jorethang Mr Tshering Bhutia and Commandant 2nd IRBn Pipaley (W) Mr Prawin Gurung were nominated as the President and Chief Programme Coordinator of the organising committee.

Mr. Ghatani, in his address, apprised to celebrate constituency level Independence Day Celebration with much patriotic fervour and dedication.
He assured to deliver his assigned responsibility and commitment with much vigour and further urged concerned executive members to accelerate the process of preparations in their respective fields. He also urged the participants to give quality output with sense of belongingness. He also suggested to organise Independence day inter-departmental football tournament which was earlier passed by the Committee.

He also applauded the role of organising committee for making Akkar Summer Cup Football Tournament 2018 a grand success and extended his gratitude to the Chief Minister Mr Pawan Chamling and every individuals for their invaluable contributions.

SDM Jorethang Mr. Tshering Bhutia called for active coordination of various departments and suggested to expedite the preparation process with new spirit.
Mr Prawin Gurung advised to invite Governmental Organization, Civil Societies and Private Organization for their active participation. He urged all students and teachers to conceptualise creative presentations and selected performances.

During the meeting subjects like March Past, Drills, Cultural performances, Football Tournament were discussed in details.

Jorethang based Truck Driver Association was honoured and felicitated for their notable contributions in Bhanu Jayanti celebration by the Area MLA and also declared dissolution of the Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee 2018. He also advised to register a literary organization for certain grant from the state government in the future.

Health Department top officials made a surprise inspection at Namchi District Hospital.

Namchi, 26th July:A surprise visit to Namchi District Hospital was made by commissioner cum-Secretary of health department Mr.Vishal chauhan and Principal Director Dr Pempa Bhutia .During the visit, inspection of Hospital toilets and wards were made.The cleanliness was found to be satisfactory, however the decision was taken to clean bathrooms every 2 hours ,for this 3 additional safai karmacharis will be provided to Namchi District Hospital. If required water can also be brought by tanker/fire brigade. It was also found that with every patient there were 3-4 visitors. A decision was also taken to restrict the number of visitors to only one except during visiting hours.For the security of hospital four additional home guards are to be deployed in additional to existing security guards.Later on DMS Dr D.C Sharma,Dr Sangay pelzang Tamang,Dr Prasant Rasaily,Dr Sanjay Rai also joined the inspection.


Gyalshing, 26th July, 2018 (IPR): The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Annual and Total Check Up for Healthy Sikkim Program (CATCH) under the Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare Department for the year 2018-19 was formally inaugurated by Shri. A. K. Ghatani, Minister, HC, HS&FW today at Community Hall, Gyalshing. Smt. Devika Subba, Zilla Adhakshya, WDZP was the Guest of Honor for the program along with Shri. Vishal Chauhan, Secretary, Health and Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia, Principal Director from the Health Department who were also present.
Shri. A. K. Ghatani addressing the public present in the inaugural program of CATCH asked the public to come forward and take this opportunity of having a proper health checkup. He underlined the vision of HCM in making Sikkimese population healthy even in the rural areas of Sikkim. He mentioned the various developments in the numerical of infrastructure, man-power and facilities provided in Sikkim since 1994 have improved significantly. He also stated that the state of Sikkim has come a long way since then and still more room for improvements are being planned and done by the Government towards its people in regards to Health and Education.
During his address he informed that a long term pending demand of medical doctors in the health centers have been resolved through recent recruitment and soon Medical Officers and nurses would be deployed in the West District after the required criteria and formalities are fulfilled by the selected candidates. Moreover, four specialist doctors including a Dermatologist, Orthopedist, MD Biochemistry and Medicine also have already joined District Hospital Geyzing.
Smt. Devika Subba also spoke on a similar note and acknowledged the efforts which the State has taken up for the West District in terms of Health. She spoke mainly on how the elimination of Tuberculosis in Sikkim by 2022 as stated by the HCM needs to be looked into and how the society and public should join hands in making it a success.
Shri. Chauhan while addressing the gathering advised the Doctors of the CATCH program that follow up has to be conducted to see if the patients are improving health wise in the District. He also acknowledged the HCM’s goal of making Sikkimese populous have better health facilities in their respective areas. He mentioned that the goal is to make the Districts well-equipped so that patients could be treated in their own respective districts.
During the program the Hon’ble Minister, Zilla Adhakshya, Secretary and Principal Director distributed health cards to the public. The Minster along with Health officials visited the District Hospital and interacted with the patients and Doctors concerned followed by site visitation of the 50 bedded Ayush Hospital at Kyongsa which is undergoing construction.

State Media Sensitization Workshop on Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine Campaign organized by Department of Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare in association with UNICEF

Gangtok, 25 July (IPR): Department of Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare in association with UNICEF organized State Media Sensitization Workshop on Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine Campaign with Journalists here at a local hotel today.

The workshop programme was attended by Commissioner cum Secretary of Health Department, Mr. Vishal Chauhan, Director of Health Service, Mr. Uttam Pradhan, State Immunization Officer, Dr. Phumzay Denzongpa, Health Officer of UNICEF, Dr. Maulik Shah, Surveillance Medical Officer, WHO, Dr. Subhendu Kr. Ray and other officials and representatives of State Health Department, WHO and UNICEF.

In his opening remarks, Health Commissioner cum Secretary, Mr. Chauhan said that the introduction of HPV vaccine in Sikkim which is going to be launched shortly targets around 30000 female children across the state between 09-14 years of age making it the largest ever immunization campaign in Sikkim. It aims to protect girl child from cervical cancer and he also informed that the state government has been giving various vaccines in the state like Hepatitis vaccine in 2001, Measles Rubella in 2009 etc which was later implemented by the Government of India as national programmes.

Commissioner cum Secretary, Mr. Chauhan said, “Our government has decided to provide HPV vaccine free of cost to girl child between 09-14 years and the vaccine has been approved by Drug Controller General of India and it was done under strict monitoring of WHO and UNICEF.”

Director Health Services, Dr. Uttam Pradhan said that the HPV vaccine will launch on 30 July 30 and Sikkim will become the first State in India to cover the entire districts. Earlier, Punjab undertook it as a pilot project in districts but Sikkim will be the first state to be covering all the four districts. He added that the introduction of HPV vaccine in Sikkim is not to become the first state in the race but to protect girl child from cervical cancer.

Dr Pradhan informed that this vaccine is one of the most cost effective vaccines for protection of girl child from cervical cancer and in more than 70 courtries of the world, this vaccine has been given to girl children from the last 10-15 years.

“The introduction of HPV vaccine in the State will be a huge milestone in the health sector and I am sure other States of India will also follow suit and introduce HPV vaccine in their states. Health Department is confident that this vaccine is well tested and it has been backed by WHO and UNICEF,” said Dr. Pradhan.

Dr. Maulik Shah, Health Officer UNICEF (North East States) spoke about the facts about Immunization and HPV vaccine.

Dr. Phumzey, State Immunization Officer said that HPV vaccination will be implemented in one go approach in the whole state and all the schools (both Government and Private) will be covered altogether.

Surveillance Medical Officer of WHO, Dr. S.K Ray, informed that WHO has recommended HPV vaccination for girls between 9-14 years old. He also informed that WHO recommends the two doses of vaccine should be separated by a minimum interval of 6 months, and no more than 12-15 months. HPV vaccine will be available in all District Hospitals, Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community health centers (CHCs) and PHSCs.

The workshop programme ended with open discussion between official of health department, UNICEF and WHO.

Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School,Namchi has been selected as the Model ELC for South Sikkim.

Namchi, 25th July:Consequent upon the directives of the ECI, Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School,Namchi has been selected as the Model ELC for South Sikkim. An Annual Calendar for the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC)has been formulated in collaboration with Election Deptt, Namchi. As the first ELC activity, students of Model ELC painted the ELC Logo on their school wall on 24th July, 2018. The activity was supervised by teachers who have been appointed as ELC Nodal Officer Miss Punam Rai, ELC Asst Nodal Officer Miss Merina Rai and Campus Ambassador, Zongree Lepcha. Many such activities have been chalked out for students of the Model ELC.

Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Cell,R.M &D.D (South) in collaboration with National School of Drama, showcased a play on Swachh Bharat Mission at Community Hall,Namchi.

Namchi, 25th July(IPR): The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Cell, Rural Management and Development Department (South) in collaboration with National School of Drama, Sikkim Theatre Training Centre showcased a play on Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) at Community Hall today. Present, during the occasion were ADC (Dev) Mr. Milan Subba, Under Secretary Mr. Aashis Gurung, staff of RM&DD and students at large.

At the onset, ADC (Dev) Mr. Milan Subba spoke in detail about the importance of SBM and advocated the students to imbibe the spirit of reduce, recycle and reuse in order to be eco- friendly and to conserve our environment. Mr. Subba emphasized that efforts should be made to make cleanliness a continuous endeavour so as to keep our surroundings clean. He also underlined the objective of the play, which is to sensitize and generate awareness amongst the students on the aim of SBM and to ingrain the significance of cleanliness and elimination of open-defecation to create a healthier environment
