Jorethang School Band Team Performs at Prime Minister’s Office, Meets the Prime Minister

New Delhi, January 28, 2019: The Jorethang Senior Secondary School Band Team which won the first position in all India Inter School Band Competition in December 2018 was invited by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to participate at a function in the PMO. The band team led by Mrs Archana Gurung, Principal; Jorethang SSS/South met the Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi at his residence on January 24, 2019 in the PMO where the Prime Minister interacted with the band team during an interactive programme organised by the PMO. The Union Defence Minister and Sports Minister were also present at the function. Youths of neighbouring countries Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Bangladesh, NCC Cadets and NSS were also in the programme. The programme was for motivating the youth of the country towards a better society and qualitative human resource. The students comprising the band team were offered to perform during at the National Police Memorial Ground on January 27, 2019. The team also witnessed the 70th Republic Day parade at the Rajpath on January 26, 2019.
On the last day of their visit to New Delhi, they performed the band programme at the Rashtriya Rangshala. The team was felicitated by the Union Defence Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman.
The HRDD Minister Sri RB Subba has expressed his happiness and congratulated the band team for having performed during such occasion. The ACS, HRDD Sri GP Upadhyaya has also congratulated the team and has wished that they go ahead with achieving mote such accolades in the days to come. The State Project Director for Samagra Shiksha (SS) Sri Bhim Thatal has stated that the band competition, which started in 2017, is a programme sponsored by the Ministry of HRD under the Samagra Shiksha programme and that this is the second instance of such competition held so for in which Sikkim has stood second in the first year and first in the second year of the event. He further congratulated the team and has also expressed his thanks to the Principal of Jorethang SSS for preparing the students in a call of very less time of one day. The HRDD requests the school leaders and students to participate in such more programmes and competitions being held at the national level on several disciplines for which funds are available under the Samagra Shiksha. Having focused on the scholastic and holistic development of the students, Sikkim is achieving in many fronts at the national level.

Union Minister on a three-day visit to the State of Sikkim

Gangtok, Jan 28: (IPR) Union Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Shri K.J. Alphons arrived in the State capital today. The Union Minister is on a three-day visit to the State of Sikkim.

The Minister was received at Pakyong airport by Chief Administrator, Government of Sikkim, Smt R.Ongmu and senior officers of the State Tourism Department.

Thereafter, the Minister visited the Orchidium (Orchid Research Centre) at Pakyong, before proceeding towards Gangtok.

On 30th January, the Union Minister will attend the inaugural function of Swadesh Darshan – 1 Project under Sikkim at Zero Point Gangtok, along with Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Pawan Chamling.

National Youth Parliament Festival

Namchi, 28th January: As, a part of National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 a district Youth Parliament for south and west Sikkim was held at Officers Club today. The program was jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Namchi and NSS unit Namchi Government College.

At the Youth Parliament a prepared Speech competition was held for the students and Youth.The jury members were Shri Santa Pradhan retired DC,Shri Puran Chettri Retired DYC, Dr Roshan Pradhan Headmaster, Deepak Rai Social Worker cum president of VBDAS,Ms Namo Dixit senior journalist.
The Five best speaker were selected from district level.Those winner were Ayesha limboo ,Sanjoy Rai,Nima Lepcha,Susmita Thapa and Robert chambling.The winners of District level youth parliament will represent the district at State level.
Earlier in the program welcome address was given by UNV-DYC Smt Sangita Dahal NYK Namchi,like wise Assistant Director NSS Sikkim Pinchoo Bhutia briefed about the program.Further, the program was concluded by distribution of certificates and memento to the winners and judges and the vote thanks was given by Dr Kamal Chettri PO Namchi Government College.

State, District and PWD Icons nominated to generate Voter awareness

Gangtok, January 28: (IPR) With an aim to generate awareness towards voting and ensure participation of youth, women, Persons with Disabilities and all section of the society in the voting process, Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim, nominated well known icons in the State as Ambassadors or Icons for the forthcoming elections.


Owing to their popularity in the state in various fields, ace footballer, Mr. Sanju Pradhan, Professional Models, Miss Peden Ongmu Namgyal and Miss Parmila Chettri were made as State Icon. Likewise, Self-taught Engineer, Mr. Bikal Rai was made the District Icon and Gold Medalist Special Olympian (2007), Mr. Nirmal Chandra Dahal was made the PwD (Persons With Disabilities) Icon.

The names of the Icons were announced and they were felicitated on the occasion of the State level National Voters’ Day program held at Chintan Bhawan Gangtok on 25th January, 2019. They were felicitated on the occasion by Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Shri A.K. Shrivastava.

These five personalities were roped by the office of the CEO as the Icon of upcoming general election to engage with the youth in the state to become responsible voters in the state. All the icons would be responsible for generating voter awareness, enhancing voter turnout and promoting ethical participation among the citizen of Sikkim.

“It is a great honor for us to be chosen as icons by the Election Office Sikkim and we are very grateful for being considered as icons who could influence change and help people make a choice by casting their votes during the election,” said Bikal Rai on the sidelines of the program.

These Icons are all set to play a new role of ambassador, creating awareness among voters to enthuse them to join the election process and exercise their voting rights.

It may be informed that the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has made short video clips of nominated Icons, which would be shown in various places of the state to create interest among the people to vote.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim, Mrs Roshni Rai informed that during the upcoming elections, the Election Commission have emphasized on making PwD friendly polling stations.

“All arrangements will be made for PwD voters, for hassle free voting such as provision of sturdy ramps, wheelchairs free transportation etc during the voting hours and Election Commission is engaged to roll out the exact figure of PwD voters in the state” added the Joint Chief Electoral Officer.

Three day Training of Trainees and Facilitators (TTF) regarding Leadership and Motivation

Gangtok, January 28: (IPR) A three day Training of Trainees and Facilitators (TTF) regarding Leadership and Motivation kicked off for the upcoming general election at the conference hall of Office of the Chief Electoral Officer today.

The inaugural session was chaired by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Shri R Telang. He was accompanied by Joint Secretary, Ms Roshini Rai.

In his inaugural address, CEO, Shri R. Telang said that regarding election process, all officers has past experiences though this training programme will come up new skills and attitude development. He urged the participants to take full advantage and be the part of conducting free, fair and peaceful election in the state.

Ms Nupur Purohit is the Resource Person from Hero Mindmine Institute, New Delhi for the three day training programme with the objective of empowering people and enhancing their professional skills and attitudes.

The training had the participation of East and North districts Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, Electoral Registration officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, Nodal Officers from the various government departments.

Simultaneously, for South and West district,Training of Trainees and Facilitators is being held at SIRD, Karfectar, South Sikkim.

Hon’ble Mr Justice Vijai Kumar Bist, Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim, unfurled the National Flag and received the guard of honour in the presence of esteemed legal fraternity.

The function had the illustrious presence of Judge, High Court of Sikkim, Hon’ble Mrs Justice Meenakshi M. Rai, Judge, High Court of Sikkim, Hon’ble Mr Justice Bhaskar Raj Pradhan, and Former Judge High Court of Sikkim, Hon’ble Mr Justice A.P. Subba.

Also present were the Registrar General, High Court of Sikkim, Registrar, Senior Counsels, officials of High Court of Sikkim and members of the Bar.

SIKKIM STATE LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY CELEBRATES 70TH REPUBLIC DAY

Gangtok, Jan 26: (IPR) Sikkim State Legal Service Authority (SSLSA) celebrated Republic Day at its premises at Development Area here today.

Hon’ble Mrs Justice Meenakshi M. Rai unfurled the national flag and received the national salute.

The programme was attended by former Judge of High Court of Sikkim, Justice Mr. A.P Subba, Additional Chief Secretary Finance cum Development Commissioner, Government of Sikkim, Mr. V. B. Pathak, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Gyanendra Kumar Verma, Member Secretary of SSLSA, Special Secretary SSLSA, Judges of District and Session Court, District Judge Special Division, Senior Advocates and other officials of SSLSA.
