Gyalshing, 02 July (IPR): Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, SLA, Shri Sangay Lepcha, and Hon’ble Minister for FS&ADD, H&CCDD, AHLF & VS, IPR & Printing Departments, Shri L.N. Sharma, along with Secretary, Horticulture, Shri D.K. Bhandari, Principal Director, Dr. N.T. Bhutia, and other officials visited the Veterinary Officer’s office at Dentam in West Sikkim wherein Shri Sangay Lepcha and Shri L.N. Sharma interacted with VO and office staffs.

The AHVS Minister assured that all necessary help with regard to manpower, vehicles and necessary items will be provided. He also mentioned that the concerned department will make necessary and immediate arrangements to make the jobs of the staffs at VO office Dentam easier.

The Deputy Speaker and IPR Minister also visited the Alpine Cheese Factory at Dentam, Sheep Farm at Bega and the Rainbow Trout Farm at Uttarey where similar interaction with staffs was conducted.

At Sheep Farm in Bega, Minister Shri L.N. Sharma declared that the available land at Sheep Farm, Bega will be cultivated for sheep fodder. He also mentioned that the department will make be transforming the farm into a model farm for West Sikkim. He also urged the concerned department to focus more on milk production.

Gangtok, 02 July (IPR): Hon’ble Minister for Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management Department, Shri Karma Loday Bhutia, chaired a Press Conference regarding the celebration of “A Day for Mother Earth” at Forest Secretariat today.

The meeting was organized by the FE&WM Department in the presence of Principal Secretary-cum-PCCF, Shri M.L. Shrivastava, IFS, and senior officials from the department.

Outlining the week programme, it was informed that the Government of Sikkim has come up with a novel idea of dedicating “A Day for Mother Earth” on 7th July every year as a permanent feature. The day will be celebrated by taking up environmental friendly activities across the State and the venue will be South district, it was informed.

The department informed that ‘A Day for Mother Earth’ is a wider initiative taken by the present government involving environment friendly activities to address the climate change and to observe 7 minutes of no vehicle plying (except emergency vehicles like Ambulance, Police, Fire Services, etc.) on particular day throughout the State which is also culminating day of Van Mahotsav.

The Minister urged the Press fraternity to disseminate awareness regarding “A Day for Mother Earth” to cooperate for the particular day to make programme successful and to clean and beautify own neighborhood, plant native saplings, resort to eco-friendly lifestyles and create low carbon footprints.

He urged every individual for a positive action which is the need of the hour to safeguard future generations. Clean and healthy environment starts from home and hence, it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to be well aware and conscious about environmental issues and put green ideas and green good deeds into action, he added.

During the press conference, it was also informed that the programme aims to contribute towards National Determined Contributions and Sustainable Development Goals for Positive climate action.

Sikkim will definitely work towards contributing to national target of carbon sequestration by 2030, the Minister stated.

Namchi, 02 July : District Collector (South), Mr Ragul K., chaired a meeting for ‘A Day for Mother Earth’ celebration at the conference hall of DAC, Namchi today.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police (South), Mr. Prawin Gurung, Additional District Collector, Mr. Satyen Pradhan, Sub Divisional Magistrate (HQ), Mr. Hemant Rai, along with officials from line departments, stake holders, business communities and local gentry.

The meeting was mainly convened to discuss about the celebration which will be conducted on 7th July coinciding with the closing day of Van Mahotsav Week i.e., from 01-07 July.

The DC (South) in his address informed about the noble programme of dedicating a day to Mother Earth initiated by the State Government. He also elaborated on 7 minutes i.e., from 11 am to 11.07 am which will be observed as no vehicular traffic in the State and appealed the general public to collectively participate in dedicating a day to mother earth by involving themselves in plantation drive and cleanliness drive carried out in different locations.

The DFO (T), Ms. Peggyla Venchungpa, while outlining the importance of the day said that this programme will be launched at Khichudumra in South district. She also requested all line departments to actively participate in this upcoming grand celebration, promotion and preservation of Mother Earth.

The programne also had an open discussions wherein various environmental measures to be carried out on 7th July involving the general public were discussed at length.

Namchi, 02 July: A day-long co-ordination cum preparatory meeting for the celebrations of upcoming Bhanu Jayanti and Rankey Mela 2019 was held at the conference hall of DAC, Namchi today.

The meeting chaired by District Collector (South), Mr Ragul K., also had the presence of Superintendent of Police (South), Mr. Prawin Gurung, Additional District Collector, Mr. Satyen Pradhan, Sub Divisional Magistrate (HQ), Mr. Hemant Rai, alongside HoDs, officials from line departments, stake holders, business communities and local gentry.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the overall arrangements with regard to the celebrations of Bhanu Jayanti which falls on 13th July and Rankey Mela which is scheduled to be held on 17th of July respectively. The meeting had a detailed deliberation on the roles and responsibilities allocated to concerned departments and other committees.

Addressing the gathering, DC South, Mr Ragul K., informed about the direction of the State Government in organising of the Rankey mela in a vibrant manner involving people from all walks of life. The venue for this mela will be at DAC road leading to Namchi Bazaar. Outlining in detail, the DC also highlighted the responsibilities of various committees set up for both the celebrations.

Additionally, he also issued directives for effective partaking from all line departments involving students to participate in the various events which forms a part of the Bhanu Jayanti celebration. He also elucidated on distribution of various awards to be conferred on the Bhanu Jayanti celebration in coordination with Dakshin Sikkim Sahitya Sammellan.

Superintendent of Police, South, Mr. Prawin Gurung, urged the attendees to diligently maintain the law and order along with peaceful participation from all walks of life during the festivity.

Various suggestions and proposals were also sought to ensure qualitative and befitting celebrations of both the events in the district.

Mangan, 02 July (IPR): A preparatory meeting for the 205th Bhanu Jayanti celebration in North district was conducted at the chamber of the District Collector, North today.

The meeting was chaired by Additional District Collector, North, Shri Somnath Adhikari, alongside Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mangan, Shri Samdup Bhutia. Also present in the meeting were the HoDs of various departments of the District Administrative Centre, Mangan.

During the meeting, various aspects and arrangements with regard to the celebration were discussed at length with the HoDs.

The 205th Bhanu Jayanti celebrations will be celebrated at Multi-purpose Hall of Mangan Senior Secondary School on 13th July. The celebration will commence from 9.30 AM onward.

The main attraction of the celebration will be cultural and literary programmes including dance competition, Ramayana Path, poem recitation and essay writing competition.

In the meeting, ADC/N, Shri Adhikari, urged all the HoDs to extend their positive support in making the celebration a grand success.
