Education Department celebrated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Gangtok, 31st Oct: (IPR) The Department of Education today celebrated the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to mark the birthday of the ‘Lauhpurush” Sardar Ballabhai Patel today across the State.
A special programme was held Rongneck Secondary School where the Hon’ble Minister for Education Sri Kunga Nima Lepcha administered the Rashtriya Ekta Pledge to the officers, teachers and students present in the school. The Hon’ble Minister was accompanied by the Additional Chief Secretary Sri GP Upadhyaya, Sate Project Director, Samagra Shiksha Sri Bhim Thatal, Director, School Education Mrs Hondala Gyaltsen and other officers from the East District. While interacting with the students and the staff members of the schools, the Hon’ble Minister for Education Sri Kunga Nima Lepcha appreciated the initiatives taken by the schools. He also interacted with the school the schools about the requirements and possible support to be extended. The Education Minister and ACS also interacted with the press representatives of India Today who have come to cover some programmes of the Education Department. The India Today representatives were happy to know that Rongneck Secondary School is a ‘waste-bin free school’ where the children and the staff members bring their own bags to collect waste and take back without dumping the garbage in the school premises.
The team further visited Chongeytar Primary School where the Minister and the officers visited the classrooms, interacted with the students and visited the school mid-day meal and kitchen garden. Chongeytar Primary School is known for its being ‘pocket-money free school’ as the students are not allowed to carry pocket money in order to stop them from buying junk food and consuming those. The mid -day meal is said to be supplementing the needs of the children and there is no need for them to go for junk food in the school premises.
In another programme, the department took part in Run for Unity from Chintan Bhawan till Titanic Park in Gangtok. Similar other programmes are being organized and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is being observed in the schools across the State.

West Sikkim awarded at New Delhi for 90% Full Immunization Coverage

New Delhi, 31st October 2019 (IPR): The West District, Sikkim was awarded with a Certificate and a medal for achieving 90% Full Immunization Coverage under Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) programme. The Award was conferred on the occasion of “Pulse Polio Silver Jubilee” commemorative event held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The event was graced by Shri J. P. Nadda, Hon’ble Former Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Harshvardhan, Hon’ble Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Shri. Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Hon’ble Minister of State, Health & Family Welfare. The Award was received by the District Collector, West Shri. Karma R. Bonpo and Chief Medical Officer, West Dr. Tsheten Namgyal Bhutia on behalf of the District.

West District, Sikkim is among the 16 other district of the country which has achieved 90% immunization coverage. The efforts in achieving 90% immunization coverage was due to the efforts of the frontline workers of the Health Department, doctors, nurses ably led by the Chief Medical Officers and supported by the West District Administration.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Harshvardhan stated that India has been declared Polio free in the year 2014 and the fight against Polio was a long and momentous journey. He stated that it all began with a single thought that if ballot papers can reach each person, two life saving drops of vaccination too can reach every child. The success of the Polio vaccination on 2nd October 1994 when Dr Harsh Vardhan was the Health Minister of Delhi led to a countrywide Pulse Polio program from the year 1995. In a span of twenty long year, India was finally free of the virus and the success of the campaign was done to the strong Government leadership, hard work and dedication of frontline health workers, community and religious influencers, State Government, civil society organization and professional bodies like IMA, IAP etc , partners such as WHO, Rotary Club and UNICEF.

The Hon’ble Minister stated that the learning from Pulse Polio Campaign has helped in other immunization programme such as the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) which is a flagship scheme of the Government of India.

West District Observes Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Gyalshing, 31st, October, 2019 (IPR): The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day was observed in the District Administration Center, Rabdentse, West Sikkim. The pledge was administered by Shri. Tshering Topgay Bhutia, SDM (Gyalshing) at the Office premises.

The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas commemorates the Birth Anniversary of Shri. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel also known as the “Iron Man of India”.

Similar program was observed at different Sub Divisional and Block Level Offices of West Sikkim.

CHIEF SECRETARY ADMINISTERS RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS PLEDGE

Gangtok, Oct 31: (IPR) Chief Secretary Mr S. C. Gupta administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to the officers and staff of all the departments situated in Tashiling Secretariat and nearby, at a function organised at Chintan Bhawan today.

The Chief Secretary was joined in the programme by Director General of Police Mr. A. Shankar Rao, Principal Secretary DOP Mr. Tenzing Gelek, heads of departments, officers and staff of various departments, and students.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day is observed annually on 31st of October to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.

On arrival, the Chief Secretary and other dignitaries lit the inaugural lamp and paid their tribute to the portrait of late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Under Secretary, Home Department, Mrs. Suprina Chettri gave a brief introduction on the observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

Artists of the Culture Department invoked patriotic fervour through their renditions to mark the occasion.

The programme came to a conclusion with the vote of thanks proposed by Additional Secretary, Home Department, Mrs. K.D Rechung.

Thereafter, Chief Secretary Mr. S.C Gupta flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ from the premises of Chintan Bhawan. The Run was organized by Sports Department in coordination with DC East and Education Department, and had the participation of students from various schools. The Chief Secretary then flagged off the march past contingents comprising of Sikkim Police, NCC, Scouts & Guides and Sikkim Police Pipe Band. Both the ‘Run for Unity’ and the March Past culminated at Titanic Park, M.G Marg.

NORTH SIKKIM OBSERVED NATIONAL UNITY DAY 2019

October 31, Mangan (IPR): North Sikkim observed National Unity Day 2019 (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) to commemorate the 144th Birth Anniversary of Late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at District Administrative Centre, Mangan, today.

On the occasion, the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge was administered by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mangan, Shri Karma Thendup Bhutia to the Government employees present in front of the District Administrative Centre. The pledge taking ceremony had the presence of Head of Departments from various departments of the District.

Similarly, the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” was also observed in the different Sub-Divisional Offices, Block Administrative Centres and Private Sector Units of the District.

The main motive behind the celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was to provide an opportunity to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity, and security of our country.

Hon’ble Governor Shri Ganga Prasad attended Diwali celebration programme at Libing Helipad

GANGTOK, OCTOBER 26: (IPR) Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad attended Diwali celebration programme at Libing Helipad here today. The 17th Mountain Division hosted Diwali celebration programme with Army officers and Jawans.

In his brief address, Hon’ble Governor extended Diwali greetings to Army officers, Jawans and their families. Hon’ble Governor urged the people to celebrate Diwali festival with lights without bursting firecrackers to avoid pollution.

Hon’ble Governor lauded the sacrifice of the jawans and said citizens are celebrating the festival of lights ‘Diwali’ with peace while soldiers are securing the borders.

During the programme army jawans performed various drills.

Hon’ble Governor handed over the prize to the winners of various category and visited stalls.

US Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Kenneth Juster called on the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang

Gangtok, Oct 25: (IPR) US Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Kenneth Juster called on the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang at Samman Bhawan, Gangtok, today.The Ambassador was accompanied by Consul General, Patty Hoffman, Consul, Daniel Wilson, Consul for political and economic, Sonia Laul.

It was a courtesy call by the Ambassador who expressed his elation to visit Sikkim and the Chief Minister and congratulated on spectacular victory in the recently concluded Bye Election. The team also admired the rich natural resources which has made Sikkim a popular place of interest for tourism in the globe.

The Chief Minister informed that the priority has been given towards preservation of natural resources, flora, fauna and the whole environment. Sikkim has congenial relations with the neighbouring countries and the states, besides harmonious mutual relation and understanding between the different sections of people living in the state, informed the Chief Minister.
The ambassador and the team admired the natural beauty and serene natured people living here. They also expressed elation mentioning that Sikkim is a small state but visited by many domestic and international tourists.

Mutual collaboration in the field of Education, Health Care, Journalism, Wellness and many other sectors could be generated so as to have proliferation in various dimension for the benefit of the common people of Sikkim, was shared in the discussion.

Chief Whip, Government of Gujarat Shri Pankaj Bhai Desai called on the CM of Sikkim Shri P S Tamang

Gangtok,Oct 25: (IPR) The Chief Whip, Government of Gujarat Shri Pankaj Bhai Desai called on the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang at Samman Bhawan, Gangtok, today and congratulated the Chief Minister for the tremendous victory in the recently held Assembly Bye Election.
He informed about the culture, traditions and places of interests of Gujarat and the guidelines granted by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with that of various schemes initiated by the Prime Minister, which improved the economic status of the people across the country.

The Chief Whip also thanked the Chief Minister for having cordial relation with the Central Government and the hospitality offered to the guests, which is the main acquaintance of this peaceful state.
