Hon’ble Governor Granted Audience To 27 Members Of MSD Dozang Club

Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad granted audience to the 27 members of MSD Dozang Club of Palzor Namgyal Girls Senior Secondary School at Raj Bhavan on 30th December 2019.
It was a courtesy call by the members of Dozang comprising of instructors and players who have recently participated in National Open Taekwondo Championship held in Kolkata. It may be mentioned that Sikkim team had won 15 Gold, 11 Silver and 9 Bronze Medals in the Championships.
Hon’ble Governor hailed the natural talent in Sikkimese students and youths in sports including martial arts and blessed the members of the Dozang for their future endeavors. He underlined the need to groom the talent which is in abundance in Sikkim and provide them with required exposure and platform to continue bringing laurels from national and international championships. He also appreciated the hard work and dedication of young kids towards their preferred sports and stated that sports should be the medium to achieve physical and mental well being besides establishing goodwill in society. He further urged the children to remain consistent in their effort to serve society for better tomorrow.

HCM Attends The State Level Tamu Lochar 2019

Gyalshing, 30th December, 2019 (IPR): The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri. P. S. Tamang (Golay) attended the auspicious Gurung Festival Tamu Lochar at the Pelling, West Sikkim. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Shri. Indra Hang Subba, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri. Sangay Lepcha, Deputy Speaker, SLA; Shri. M. N. Sherpa, Minister, Energy and Power; Shri. Bhim Hang Subba, Minister PHE, Shri. P. T. Luksom, Former Deputy Chief Minister, Shri. D. B. Gurung, Chairman SBS, Shri. T.T. Bhutia, Secretary Tourism, Shri. K. L. Lepcha, ADC West, Shri. Nakul Pradhan, ASP West, Officials and other Dignitaries.

The HCM in his address to the gathering extended his best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Tamu Lochar a festival of the Gurung Community where he expressed his gratitude and joy to be present at the event. He mentioned that December the last month of the years is a month full of festivals of different communities of Sikkim hence he extended his heartfelt congratulations to all.
In his address, he stressed that the unity of community is very important and hence importance should be given on the preservation of culture and languages with the cooperation of all involved.

He informed that the ‘Gurung Bhawan’ will be made after careful consideration with full support of the Government. He also informed that the ‘Tribal Status’ for the Gurung Community along with other similar communities of Sikkim has been looked into and worked upon by the State Government. The HCM also stressed on the inclusion Gurung Language to be introduced in the schools based upon the community census in areas of Sikkim and that Gurung Language teachers would also be recruited in future so that future generations can learn their native language.
He also informed that the Government is keen to develop tourism in West Sikkim. Similarly, the Rambang Check Post to be opened soon for making tourism corridor in West Sikkim to cater tourists needs and develop West Sikkim in the area of tourism.

During the program the felicitations of various personalities including Shri. B. B. Gurung, Former Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri. Mohan Gurung, Shri. Sarad Kumar Gurung, Smt. Sneha Lata Gurung, Shri. Narendra Bikram Gurung, Shri. Navin Gurung. Similarly, Certificate of Inspirations to Young talents were also given to namely Ms. Roshnila Gurung, Shri. Joy Gurung, Smt. Devika Gurung, Ms. Pranisha Gurung.
The Pelling Tourism Development Association also felicitated Shri. N. K. Karki, Principal Pelling SSS, Shri. Topzor Bhutia and Shri. Nirmal Rai.

Hon’ble Governor Met The Children Of Subh Laxmi Social Organization

Gangtok,December 28: (IPR) Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad met the caretaker and children of Subh Laxmi Social Organization (Orphanage home), Chandamari today at Raj Bhavan. Hon’ble Governor distributed blanket to the children of Subh Lakshmi Orphanage home, for the benefit of children and orphans. Hon’ble Governor said that he wants to see the children to live in healthy and better life.

Like, every year Hon’ble Governor distributed rugs to shelters homes, old age homes and senior citizens of the State as the onset of winter. Hon’ble Governor expressed his desire to visit Subh Laxmi (Orphanage home), Chandmari in near future.

HCM Chairs A Meeting With The Representatives Of The Old Settlers

Gangtok December 28th: (IPR) The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang chaired a meeting with the representatives of the old settlers, business community of Sikkim and the President Chamber of Commerce, Sikkim.

During the meeting the old settlers and business community of Sikkim requested the Hon’ble Chief Minister to look into their pertinent pending demands.

After a patient hearing the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang assured them that unlike during the previous government where their demands were kept languishing, the present SKM led Government will lend all support and cooperation and their issues will be solved soon one by one without any further delay.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister also added that in the month of January a high level delegation consisting of his Cabinet Ministers and representatives of the old settlers will visit New Delhi, where they will be meet the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji and the Hon’ble Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss and resolve the pertinent demands of the old settlers and the business community of Sikkim.

The representatives of the old settlers during the meeting also expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the Hon’ble Chief Minister for his cooperation and support.

The meeting also saw the presence of Hon’ble Minister Tourism Shri B.S Panth and Secretary to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri S. D Dhakal.

Hon’ble Minister Shri. L. N Sharma Attend The Sakewa Celebration At Legship

Legship, 27th December 2019 (IPR): The festival of Sakewa a religious and cultural festival of Rai community was celebrated with grand manner organized by the frontal organization of Rai Community, Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh (AKRS) at Legship public ground, West Sikkim.

The Hon’ble Minister cum area MLA Shri. Lok Nath Sharma was present as the Chief Guest for the celebration along with the gracious presence of Political Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Jacob Khaling present as the Special Guest; the members of AKRS and the people from Rai Community.

HM in his address conveyed the congratulating massage and best wishes of HCM and Government to the attendees and committee for the festival. He expressed his thought that even though we belong to different indigenous religious group but eventually we are humans. He urged all to assert their effort to encourage the young aspiring generation on the path of securing higher field of studies which would help them attain a secure future. He then informed that under the able leadership of HCM P. S. Tamang (Golay) the state has came up with various initiatives which shall assist to those who are ready to work hard to attain their goals and likewise he informed about the various schemes which would benefit the farmers of the Sikkim.

He also mentioned that the demands placed by Rai Community would be considered by the State Government. He maintained that all the communities have equal rights to safeguard and promote their cultural heritage. He expressed that the State Government would remain supportive towards all the communities of the Sikkim and would work for their overall development.

He also asserted that a rock climbing centre would be established at Legship Public ground.

Hon’ble Political Secretary in his brief address maintained that the government has created a secular environment for all the communities of the state to practice, promote and propagate their cultural heritage. Adding that the present state government would never politicize the cultural and religious events, carrying political flags to such programmes would be strictly forbidden, he said that such practices should not be entertained considering the sanctity of religious events. He reiterated that any person capable of leading any social organization could head such organization irrespective of his/her political affiliation. He further stated that all the communities should be proud of their distinct identity in the forms of various cultural and religious practices and each and every community should be given equal rights to flourish in the state. He maintained that harmonial co – existence of all the communities of the state together no matter of the cultural and religious diversities is necessary for well being of the sikkimese as a whole.

Further, while sharing that Rai Community leads the population graph of Sikkim and the social organizations he urged for Rai Community to come forward for the upliftment of the community. He also stated that the Rai as a community should be united irrespective of his/her religious affiliations for the progress and development of the community, he said.
At the outset, President of AKRS Chandra Khaling floored the objectives of celebrating Sakewa and expressed that promotion and preservation of Rai community’s cultural heritage was the main motive behind organizing it as a festival. He added that Sakewa celebration was also to make the young generation aware about age old customs and culture of rai community. He also placed various demands such as construction of Mangkhim (Rai community’s temple) at some places of Sikkim and others.

The celebration saw the various Cultural performance along with the presentation of souvenirs to Chief Guest and Guest of Honour by the committee.

The presentation of token of love was bestowed by the HM to Mr. Dhurva Kr. Rai and felicitation to Mr. P.M Chamling, Adviser AKRS, West and to Mr. K.S. Rai, Land donor of Rodungkhin.

Mangpas (Rai Community’s priest) performed puja at the venue throughout the day.
