Yangang, South Sikkim has been named the most innovative tourism product of the year

Gangtok, September 28: In one of the most prestigious and only region-based “Himalayan Hospitality & Tourism Awards” of the country endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India (Kolkata office), Yangang in South Sikkim has been named as the most innovative tourism product of the year with the introduction of the number of iconic projects coming up in the area and the start of a unique marketing campaign. Celebrating the World Tourism Day, this event took place in the luxurious Mayfair Tea Resort, NEW CHUMTA on 27.09.2020.
The event was organized by HHTDN and supported by ACT. Shri Robin Basnet, Entrepreneur and Tourism Activist from Yangang and Ms. Sharmista Pradhan, Deputy Secretary/ Protocol Officer under Home Department, Government of Sikkim, Siliguri received this award on behalf of Sikkim in the presence of honorable Tourism Minister of West Bengal Shri Gautam Deb and Regional Director of Tourism, Government of India Shri Sagnik Choudhury.
In his few words Robin introduced Yangang as the new tourism destination and appealed the fraternity to work together to develop the region in a sustainable way.

The single case reported on TruNat was from Geyzing.

It was also informed in the health bulletin that the State has recorded two more deaths of COVID-19 on 26th September.
A 55 year old female, resident of Naya Baazar, West Sikkim passed away in the morning of 26th September at STNM hospital. She had comorbid condition and was admitted to the hospital on 25th September.
The second death was of a 68 year old male, resident of Deorali. He was admitted in STNM hospital and passed away yesterday at around 9:30 pm. He was the patient of diabetes, hypertension and other ailments.

HCM joined the Chief Ministers of other North-East states on the inaugural day of Destination North East 2020

Gangtok, September 27: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang joined the Chief Ministers of other North-East states on the inaugural day of ‘Destination North East, 2020’ via live video.
The theme for this year is ’emerging delightful destination’ and was inaugurated by Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah (Chairman, NEC) and will continue till 30th September 2020. Dr Jitendra Singh (Minister of State, Independent Charge) and In-charge of Development of North East Region (DoNER) was also present as the Guest of Honour.
Last year the event was held at Varanasi and was celebrated grandly, this year due to the pandemic it was not possible to do the same. Shri K Moses Chalai (IAS), Secretary North East Council (NEC) gave the welcome address which was followed by the theme song and other programmes.
In his speech, Dr Jitendra Singh thanked the Union Minister, Chief Ministers and officials of various states for their presence in the event. He talked about the unique culture and tradition of the North East region and its importance to the Indian economy in the coming years. He added that there is so much to be seen and learned from the region and the new role it will have in shaping the new India.
Similarly, In his address, the Union Home Minister commended the work done by Dr Jitendra Singh in helping the North East region in the last six years. He said that the natural and scenic beauty of the region is one he has not seen anywhere else and called it a jewel in the crown on India. The peace and prosperity of the region is an important factor in the advancement of the area. He also made an invitation for the event to be held in Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
Towards the end, he talked about improving connectivity in the region paving way for more developmental projects. He mentioned that the North East region can be a gateway for India in its ‘Look East Policy’.
