DC East chairs Jal Jeevan Mission meeting at EDZP Bhawan, Gangtok

Gangtok, 30th November 2020 (IPR): A meeting of Members of District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) was held at the Conference Hall of East District Zilla Panchayat Bhawan, DAC Complex, Sichey today. The District Collector, East cum Chairman/CEO (DWSM), Shri Ragul K, presided over a District level meeting for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The main objective of the programme was to provide administrative approval by members of District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) from line departments of the District Government to allow in-village water supply schemes at the district level.
Government of India has restructured and subsumed the ongoing National Rural Drinking Water Programme(NRDWP) into Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household i.e., Har Ghar Nal Se Jal (HGNSJ) by 2024. The goal of JJM is to provide functional household tap connection to every household with service level at the rate of 55 litres per capita per day.
Present in the meeting alongside the District Collector, East were Smt. Radha Pradhan, Additional District Collector, Development; Shri Sonam Gyatso Bhutia, District Planning Officer-cum-Member Secretary, DWSM; Smt Neelam Rai, Superintendent Engineer, EDZP and other Officers from line departments.
DC/E, Shri Ragul K. who is also the Chairman CEO of JJM said that the coordination of all line departments was necessary and hoped all the Government institutions of the district will be involved in the project. He directed the representatives of the Education Department to make sure that all schools must have a continuous water supply. Likewise, he directed the Social Justice and Welfare Department to make sure that there was continuous water supply in all the ICDS centres of the district. In the end, he urged all the line departments of the government to co-ordinate properly to make this mission a success.
Smt Neelam Rai in her brief address apprised everyone about the 10 BACs from East District have submitted estimates for water-related issues and the estimates shall soon go to the Apex Committee.
During the session, the administrative approval for in-village water supply schemes at the district level was approved by the members of DWSM in the meeting.

Mega Health Camp was organised at Government Senior Secondary School Bermiok

Gyalshing, 30th Nov (IPR): A daylong Mega Health Camp was organised at Government Senior Secondary School Bermiok under Gyalshing Bermiok Constituency, today. More than five hundred patients undergone free medical check-up, who all were examined by medical specialists including Cardiologist, Gynecologist, Ophthalmologist, Orthopaedic, Pediatrician, Surgeon, Medicine and ENT Specialists, Anaesthesiologist and Dentists. The participants were also provided prescribed medicines free of cost.
While addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Minister-cum-Area MLA of Gyalshing Bermiok Constituency, Shri Lok Nath Sharma extended the heartiest gratitude to the entire health professionals for conducting Medical Checkup. He also applauded Gyalshing Bermiok Yuva Samaj and Indian Medical Association ( IMA-Sikkim) for taking up the noble initiative to organise multi-speciality Health Camp to provide free medical check-up to all patients and participants. Further, he commended Bermiok Senior Secondary School for making necessary arrangement to ensure medical check-up in compartmentalized rooms in an appropriate manner.
He also shared his vision to make Govt. Senior Secondary School as one of the model schools and informed that required infrastructures of Science Block will be established, for which fund of RupeesTwenty Lakhs has already been sanctioned by Niti Ayog. Further, he also added to construct additional infrastructures of Basketball Ground and Pavilion.
The programme was also attended by Advisor Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Shri Durga Prasad Pradhan, Principal Government Sr Secondary School Bermiok Shri Pradeep Gurung and staffs, teachers from feeder schools and others.
Earlier, in the morning, Minister Sharma also extended a warm welcome to the specialists and medical team members and also inspected newly upgraded infrastructures along with the dignitaries.

Hon’ble Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of eco-tourism pilgrimage complex at Dodak

Gyalshing, 30th November (IPR): Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) laid the foundation stone of eco-tourism pilgrimage complex at Dodak under Daramdin Constituency, West Sikkim today in the presence and participation of Hon’ble MP, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary, Political Secretary to HCM, Press Advisor to HCM; Secretary to HCM, MLAs, Chairmans, Advisors, Adhakshya (West), Special DGP; DC West; HODs; Officials and Dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, Shri P.S.Tamang expressed his gratitude towards those whose endeavours for Vrindavan has become reality and for the success of the program. He mentioned that the said Vrindaban will be eco-tourism pilgrimage. He announced that Urgyen Choeling monastery of Dodak would meet its demand in the coming future which he visited earlier. He also mentioned about the Covid-19 vaccine declaration meeting which was attended earlier under the direction of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He briefed about the best way to cope with Covid-19 to the present gathering. He clearly denied the spreading rumours of lockdown and stated that the State government is working continuously to tackle the pandemic situation of Sikkim keeping in mind of the general public to reduce the risk of Covid-19 virus. He further informed about the increasing infection of kidney and cancer patients in the state and informed cancer hospital is being established at Karfectar, Jorethang, South Sikkim with world-class cancer hospital having the latest technology and well equipped. He also mentioned about the Dialysis Centre and ICU at Gangtok, Namchi and Gyalshing. He further added about the recent operation done at Namchi and added that people will avail health facilities in their respective district itself. He announced that the health sector and agriculture sector will be the government’s priority and without compromising on the health sector all the subdivision would have best facilities. He further announced that in future if the vaccine of Covid-19 will be made, the State government will distribute it free of cost to the people Sikkim. He assured to provide specialist doctors to district hospitals where all type of illness would be treated within the state. He further assured to provide full infrastructure to Chakung Science College which will fall under the centre of excellence. He stated that the State government is working on the long term development of the state.
Chief Minister also mentioned about the production incentives for those who produce more agriculture product to motivate the farmers. He stressed on start-up loan for unemployed and discussed on 35% subsidy on loan. He also stressed on the mega project for homestay which should be fully traditional and informed that the government will extend all possible support for the structural of five rooms. He later asked the tourism department to look after the said matters.
He later mentioned that in the coming year, the government will conduct interviews for those who are seeking for suitable jobs to reduce lack of manpower. He further mentioned that development will be done in each and every constituency. He further talked about One Rank One Pension and assured to implement soon.
During the program, the Chief Minister felicitate seventeen people of Dodak who donated land for Vrindavan.

It gives me immense pride to inform you that Neurosurgery operation was conducted for the first time in Sikkim at STNM Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sochyagang.
Previously, all neurosurgery cases used to be referred to hospitals outside the state but with the appointment of 2 of the qualified neurosurgeons by the Government, the service will now be available within the state. Dr Pranav Rai, MBBS, MS(Surgery), MCh(neurosurgery) with the assistance of anaesthetist Dr Nilima and Dr Kinga and OT staffs conducted the operation on a 61 years old individual who gained consciousness in the first post day itself.
Similarly, Gastroenterologist conducted OPD consultations and performed the gastrointestinal endoscopy, band ligations of oesophagal varices for the first time in the state at Gyalshing District Hospital. OPD consultations by paediatric surgeon and cardiologist were also carried out at Namchi District Hospital where surgical cases were operated.
The Super specialist District Outreach Programs has been gaining traction in the last few months due to its success and are in demand. It has been very helpful in reaching out and catering to people on the grassroots level which was previously non-existent.
I express my gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, staff and the people who have been working tirelessly to make this program a success. I encourage them to carry on with their noble deed to further enhance the medical facilities in the state.
