Football exhibition matches as a part of the celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Namchi 31st October (IPR): The newly inaugurated Bhaichung Stadium witnessed two exciting football exhibition matches as a part of the celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas today.
The two exhibition match was played between Chief Minister XI Versus Chief Secretary XI and Jhapa XI Verses Sikkim XI.

The event had the presence of the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, SLA Speaker Mr LB Das along with cabinet ministers, other dignitaries, department officials and the public.

The first exhibition match was played between CM XI and CS XI wherein, the latter team scored two goals against one to register a victory.
In the second match, Sikkim XI had to score one goal to emerge as the winner against Jhapa XI.

As part of the celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, various activities and competitions were organised wherein cash prizes along with certificates were awarded.
The Chief Minister extended financial support to 16 footballing clubs of Sikkim. These are namely:

3. Mangalbaria Sporting Club (Boys)
4. Gyalshing Sporting Club (Boys)

In Half Marathon(21km), Men’s Category Mr. Bikash Bhujel stood in the first position while Mr. Puran Rai and Mr. Niraj Kumar Maurya took the second and third position respectively.
In the women category(21km), Ms. Sonika stood in the first position and Ms. Arpita Sahini and Ms. Badho took the second and third place respectively.
In 40km cyclathon Men category- Mr. Suraj Rana Magar, Mr. Kiran Limboo and Ashin Sharma stood in the first second and third position respectively.
In women category, Ms. Indra Kala Nimbang stood in the first position while Ms. Anita Rai took the second and Ms. Bibisha Chawdary came in the third position.

The winners of State Level Inter-Club Under-16 Boys and Girls were Mangan Sporting Club (Boys) and Dentam Sporting Club(Girls).
In the parade competition, Sikkim Police Female Contingent was adjudged as the first position and the second position was taken by Sikkim Armed Force. While the Third Position was grabbed by 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion tying with 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion.

Overview of Bhaichung Stadium

Namchi, 31st October ( IPR): Bhaichung Stadium at Namchi which was inaugurated by Governor Shri Ganga Prasad in the gracious presence of Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang has approximately 7500 seating capacity and was awarded the ‘Fifa Quality Pro’ label. The sporting surface is made of tiger turf and the total area of the stadium is 19650 SQM in which the playing field area is 105m X 68m, respectively.

Some of the facilities that the stadium comprises are the offices for physiotherapists, managers, linesmen, referees, changing and coach rooms. Additionally, there are a food court, computer, media and public address rooms. A mess and a space for the hall of fame have also been put up. The stadium also has a VVIP lounge, hostel, warden, commentators and a utility room.

The arena is equipped with a state-of-art firefighting system, rainwater harvesting tank, digital scoreboard, boundary fencing, diesel generator set, green gallery and a parking facility for at least 50 cars.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and inauguration of Bhaichung Stadium

Namchi, October 31st (IPR): On the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Governor of Sikkim Shri. Ganga Prasad inaugurated Bhaichung Stadium at Namchi in the gracious presence of Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Shri Indra Hang Subba, SLA Speaker Sri L.B. Das, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Department Shri. Kunga Nima Lepcha, Cabinet Ministers along with a host of other dignitaries and sports persons alike .

Addressing, the gathering Governor Shri Ganga Prasad expressed his jubilation on the historical event which is inauguration of the much awaited Bhaichung Stadium in the state of Sikkim. He added that this is a special occasion for the citizens of sikkim and other sports persons in the country as this stadium will provide a platform to hone the skills of playing and watching professional football matches. The Governor also said that this inauguration coincides with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 146th birth anniversary which is celebrated as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas across the country.

He cited examples of the heroic deeds of the iron man of India, his unrelenting hand in leading the country through the struggles of Independence and urged people to draw inspiration from his contributions. Closer home the governor spoke in brief about a prominent freedom fighter Helen Lepcha alias Sabitri Devi who dedicated her life in building the nation.

Delving about Sikkim the Governor updated that the State is known for its Organic Farming and serene environment which has the capability of attracting scores of tourist and underlined that these and many more factors are there which makes sikkim as one of the most affable states in the country and urged the youths particularly to elevate the state and the country to much higher grounds.

Speaking at the inaugural function Chief Minister Shri P. S. Tamang congratulated and dedicated the stadium to the people of Sikkim and other sports players at large. He said that the State Government has and will always give priority in sports section, they will strive to develop sports based facility and extend all possible assistance in evolving the sports field.

Despite a couple of lacuna bhaichung stadium was finished in a record of two years time which is a milestone for the State Government. This stadium will promote sports, help in bringing people together in the spirit of sportsmanship overall this stadium will be a symbol for cebration.

The Chief Minister added that the stadium is named after the legendary footballer Bhaichung Bhutia who is the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna and Padma awards among others. The name of the stadium refers to the achievements of Bhaichung Bhutia which has been immortalized so as to encourage budding sports players of our state to try hard and gain laures for sikkim in their chosen sports field.

During the course of the program the Governor and the Chief Minister felicitated the 1971 Indo-Pak war veterans and next of kin of soldiers martyred in various operations/actions. They are namely Rifleman Bir Bahadur Rai, 5/11 GR, residents of Chumbung, Havildar Laxmi Prasad Nepal, Artillery, Havildar Mani Das Rai, Artillery, Rifleman Late Bishal Gurung, 3/1 GR martyred while fighting Pak terrorist in Kupwara Jammu and Kashmir, Rifleman Late Karma Tenzing Sherpa 2/5 GR martyred during the counter insurgency operation ‘OP Hifaazat’ in Manipur.

Alongwith the veterans everster Smt Manita Pradhan for scaling numerous mountains as well as Mount Everest was felicitated for noteworthy performance in adventure sports.

Felicitation of 1971 Indo-Pak veterans

Namchi, 31st October(IPR): During the inauguration of Bhaichung Stadium and cebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, Governor Shri Ganga Prasad and the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang felicitated the 1971 Indo-Pak war veterans and next of kin of soldiers martyred in various operations/actions. Minister Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha flagged off the State Level Cyclathon

Namchi, 30th October(IPR): Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Department Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha flagged off the State Level Cyclathon(40KM) and Half-Marathon (21Km) as a part of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas activities at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi today.
The event was organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
The 40 Km cyclothon event was held in the Men and Women Category, 18 Years above. While the 21 km Half-Marathon was held in the Men and Women Category, 16 years above.
The cyclothon covered Damthang, Cherry Resort Temi and culminated at Namchi Central Park. Whereas, the route for Half-Marathon covered Bhanjyang and ended at Central Park.
The participants who stood from 4th to 13th Positions in the event were handed over consolidation prizes and certificates by the Chief Guest. Whereas, the participants who secured first, second and third positions shall be awarded on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at Bhaichung Stadium tomorrow.
A total of 426 participants including those from Haryana, Punjab, Goa, Assam, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and neighbouring states West Bengal and Nepal had enrolled in the said event.

The Secretary UDD, Pr CTP UDD and MC GMC attended one day long consultation workshop

The Secretary UDD, Pr CTP UDD and MC GMC attended one day long consultation workshop organised by Niti Ayog and Asian Dev Bank (ADB) in Hyderabad on 29/10/21 on the subject of “Cities as Engine of Growth: strengthening the states for broad based Urban Development”. It is heartening to note that Gangtok city has been selected amongst 12 cities in 7 states for detailed study on urban planning by Niti Ayog and ADB. Secretary UDD gave presentation on behalf of Sikkim and was also one of the panel speakers during the workshop. The Pr CTP and MC GMC also participated in the discussions. The workshop was also attended by senior officers from Niti Ayog led by Special Secretary, ADB, PWC and 6 other states besides Sikkim.

A day-long surprise joint inspection of food business premises and various retail outlets

Gangtok, October 29 (IPR): A day-long surprise joint inspection of food business premises and various retail outlets in and around Ranipool was carried out today by a team of officials led by SDM Gangtok, Shri Robin Sewa.

The inspecting team comprised of Health and Family Welfare Department(Food safety & standard cell), Tourism & civil Aviation Department, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department, Gangtok Municipal Corporation, and Police Department.The team was led by SDM Gangtok under the direction of District Magistrate in a DLAC meeting held on 4th October 2021 in his chamber.

The team inspected the personal hygiene of staff, hygiene of the kitchen in relation to waste management and drainage, staff uniform, quality of equipment used inside the kitchen and the proper installation of water purifiers as per the latest Government order on restriction of plastic bottles in the state. The team further inspected the expiry dates of the products on sale as well as of those used in the kitchen.

The focus was given on pandemic control SOPs like use of thermoguns, hand sanitizers, masks and handwashing areas with hand wash installed in place etc, and establishment of green rooms for smoking in restaurants and hotels. The team also focused on FOSTAC training and mandatory certification of the owners as well as the workers. The team checked the vaccination status of the business owners and employees involved. Installation of fire extinguishers in all business premises and also display of emergency helpline numbers at the easy reach and accessibility of people were also thoroughly checked.

The business premises which were not following safety protocols were given the improvement notice and enlightened on improvement scope to avoid penalty in the subsequent visits. Likewise, establishments functioning without license were charged a penalty as per the government protocols.

Instructions were issued to use cooking oil which are properly canned, and packaged food items and confectionaries were to be labeled with date of manufacture, date of expiry and best before.

The team also cross checked the items on sale with the license, commodities on sale were to be kept within the shop jurisdiction only. Unorganised scrap materials, hoardings in unauthorised areas were to be removed.

As per the Section 5 of the COPTA which prohibits any kind of advertisement, brand promotion and sponsorship of Tobacco products the shops were prohibited from displaying the tobacco products. Shops displaying and selling such products openly were charged fine.

The team from the animal husbandry and veterinary services department focussed on the hygiene and sanitization of meat selling premises. No objection certificates given by the concerned department were checked, the meat sellers were given strict instruction on prohibition of slaughter of live birds within the selling premises. Lastly, the department emphasized on the mandatory display of updated rate boards.

The police department also fully supported the inspecting team with their presence and inputs as and when it was needed.

SDM Gangtok highlighted the importance and intention of surprise inspection as being beneficial for both the business community as well as the various sectors of Government of Sikkim involved in the inspection.

The business community welcomed the initiative taken by the inspecting team and exhibited their willingness to implement the strategies spelled by the inspecting team.
