Block level awareness programme on PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME) scheme was organized on 01.12.2022 at BAC Hall, Dzongu, Mangan District by MSME Division, Commerce & Industries Department.
This block-level programme was organised by the department to directly reach out to local entrepreneurs and motivate them to take up business in the food processing business. Around 50-60 local entrepreneurs from SHGs, FPOs and aspiring entrepreneurs attended the awareness programme.
Deputy Secretary, Mr. Topden Zangpo, MSME welcomed the Guest and participants and briefly highlights the key importance of the PM FME scheme. He informed the participants about the financial, technical and training support provided by the department to local entrepreneurs. He also stressed the importance of standardization of products to upscale sales both within the states and outside the states.
Further, Block Development Officer, Passingdang, Upper Dzongu, Mr. Mani Kumar Rai appealed to the entrepreneur to take full advantage of this programme and stated that the Department is ready to help local entrepreneurs in setting up their business in food processing business in the best possible way.
Mr. Wangchuk Gyalpo, Canara Bank Manager, Mangan Branch also attended the programme and assured to help the entrepreneurs availing loans under the PMFME scheme. He has briefly addressed the public queries.
Also, local panchayats members have attended the programme and assured to create more awareness among local people.
The programme was followed by a video presentation by the PM FME team to explain various processing techniques and machinery involved.
Lastly, a success stories video was shared to encourage the local entrepreneurs and take inspiration from earlier beneficiaries.

The State Handloom Expo commences at the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom

Gangtok,1st December 2022 (IPR): The State Handloom Expo 2022-2023 commenced at the premises of the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Zero point, Gangtok.
Organized by the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms Department, Government of Sikkim under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) the expo is scheduled to be held till 15th December 2022.
The expo was inaugurated by Shri H. K. Sharma, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim in the presence of Smt Binita Thapa, Director, DHH, Shri Tshering Dorjee Bhutia, Deputy Director, DHH, Officers and staff of Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Zero Point, Gangtok.
Shri H K Sharma visited the stalls and interacted with the participants and expressed keen interest in various hand-woven products displayed for sale. He said that this is the first Mega Handloom Expo that is being organized by the department providing a direct marketing platform for Weavers, sellers and buyers to converge and create awareness in the handloom sector as an employment and income-generating industry.
He stated that the expo aims to facilitate and make local weavers aware through various programs and to facilitate the consumer to purchase genuine handloom fabrics woven by local artisans. He further expressed that it is the Government’s vision and policy of creating a sustainable cottage industry in the State.
He anticipated that many people would visit the expo to encourage local weavers and expected the event to stimulate a trade of culture between different parts of the country.
The expo featured a total number of 60 stalls including representation from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir and stalls of local weavers/SHGs from the State.
Local weavers and SHGs from different corners of the state exhibited their Handloom items for sale. These include Sany Weavers, Hee Bermoik (West Sikkim), AMU Sakchum Self Help Group, Upper Dzongu (North Sikkim), Goam Kitam Suntaley Cluster, Self Help Group,(South Sikkim), Ralung Handlooms SHG, West Pendam, Arithang Machila Kalyankari Sangh, Gangtok District, and Trishna, Self Help Group, Pani House Gangtok.
The expo gives a platform for handlooms and handicraft industries to highlight the products made by weavers/ local people. Products like carpets, saris, bed sheets and various other items were highlighted at the fair.
Participants took the opportunity for marketing their respective products to the visitors and sell them.
The expo is an annual feature of Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd and it is proving a boon to weavers as their products are sold in large numbers. It also provides a readymade marketing platform for the local weaver’s SHGs and PUCs.
This year the State Mega Handloom Expo 2022-23 has a mixture of culture and business blended together.

Namchi, 1st December: Extension personnel participating in winter school titled Advances in Organic Production System in Sikkim Himalayas organized by ICAR Sikkim Centre visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Sikkim on 30th November. This was a Field Trip and Interaction program with the Scientific and Technical Staff of KVK South Sikkim. The participants were the Assistant Professors and Subject Matter Specialists from different Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of all over India. Shri Indra Prasad Shivakoti, Senior Scientist and Head highlighted, in brief, the ongoing activities of the KVK through power point presentation. Later on, all the visitors witnessed standing crops under different trials and various demonstration units viz. Angora Farming Unit, Duck Rearing Unit, Goatery Unit, Vertical Farming System, Mushroom Unit, etc. with the briefing of Mr. Tshring Dorjee Tamang, Farm Manager KVK South Sikkim.

Mangan DAC organizes Traditional Costume-cum-Traditional Food Festival Day

Mangan, 1 Dec(IPR): Traditional Costume Day-cum-Traditional Food Festival was organized at the complex of District Administration Center Mangan, today.
Various varieties of traditional organic foods and vegetables were exhibited at the premises by the Anganwadis and a Self Help Group.
The event was participated with great zeal and enthusiasm by the employees of the district clad in traditional attire.
The District has been observing traditional costume day, 1st of every month since September 2022.

The 3rd DLAC meeting was chaired by DC Mangan

Mangan, 1st December (IPR): The 3rd District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) meeting was chaired by DC Mangan, Dr. A. B. Karki at DAC Pentok today. The meeting was organized by Food Safety Cell in collaboration with Health and Family Welfare Department.
The meeting had the presence of DC Mangan, Dr. A. B. Karki, SDPO Mangan, CMO, JDS, CDPO, DCSO and representatives of FSS Cell.
The meeting saw a discussion on the importance of awareness about food safety, healthy local and traditional food promotion and the need to organize Eat Right Mela in the district. Matters regarding the extension of the FSSAI initiative-related program to Lachen and Lachung Dzumsa and discussion on the report on the activities decided in the previous DLAC meeting were also analyzed.
It may be mentioned that The United Nations General Assembly has declared the year 2023 as the International year of Millet and on the occasion, every district is to organize a Millet Mela.

Gyalshing District observes the World AIDS Day

Gyalshing Dec 1st, 2022 (IPR): To mark the event of world AIDS day Nehru Yuva Kendra, Gyalshing in collaboration with the State AIDS Control Society organized a massive rally which started from DIET, Government College Gyalshing today.
Raising slogans to create awareness among people about AIDS and HIV-positive status, students carried placards and banners and walked to the Forest check post.
The event was Graced by Chairman PHE Shri Hari Narayan Subedi accompanied by Principal DIET Ms. Paramita Rai, Lecturers and
non-teaching staff of DIET Gyalshing.
Resource person, Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers counselor Gyalshing,
Smt Ganga Chettri briefed that the day is an opportunity for public and private partners to spread awareness about the status of the pandemic and encourage progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care around the world. She also added world AIDS day has become one of the most widely recognized International Health Day and a key opportunity to raise awareness, commemorate those who have died, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.
Earlier, Chairman PHE Department flagged off the rally.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Principal DIET, Gyalshing.

Agriculture Department in association with State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Govt. Of Sikkim and National Institute of Agriculture Extension Management ( MANAGE), Hyderabad conducted a six-day function on Skill Training for Rural Youth ( STRY) on Enriched VermiCompositing (6 +1) which was successfully inaugurated today on 30th November 2022 at Integrated Nutrient Farm School (INM), Kokaley, Rakdong Tintek- Block, Gangtok District, Sikkim. The programme is scheduled up to 5th December 2022.
The Training Programme was chaired by Mr. Ongdup Lepcha Panchayat as Chief guest and Special Guest Miss. Susmita Lama Tamang (Deputy Project Director), Agriculture Department, Mrs. Jenny Basnet (Agriculture Development Officer). Total Participating Farmers attendance was 15no including members from different SHGs. The programme was also attained by Area Agriculture Inspectors and other Field Functionaries. The programme was conducted by Block Technology Manager (BTM), Rakdong-Tintek Block.
Deputy Project Director (Agriculture Department) highlighted the aims and objectives of the training and encouraged all the participants to actively take part during the training. The programme was further addressed by Chief Guest, who encouraged the participants to continue efforts on skill development for increasing their income. The inaugural session was concluded with Farmers officers’ interaction.
The programme continued with a technical session with a lecture on “Integrated Nutrient Management and Vermi Composting” by Resource person Mrs Jenny Basnet (Agriculture Development Officer) spoke on the introduction to vermiculture and vermicomposting, an overview of potential benefits and constraints, steps of vermicomposting and methodology, identification of basic characteristics of a worm, selection of site and physical requirement of vermin compost unit, working with worm nutrient, the content of vermicompost, pest and disease, application of vermin wash, the scope of vermin technology in Organic farming and post-harvest management.
Deputy Project Director is the Course Director and BTM is the Course Coordinator of the STRY Programme. Lastly, the programme was concluded with an Integrated Nutrient Farm School Visit.

National Conclave on State Finance Commissions was held at NIRDPR

Hyderabad, Telangana, November 30th: A two-day-long National Conclave on State Finance Commissions was held at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj(NIRDPR), Hyderabad on 29th & 30th November 2022.
The Conclave was organized by NIRDPR, Hyderabad in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India to deliberate on the issues for all-round analysis and working of SFC’s and to suggest a broad roadmap and strategy towards bringing the excellence of SFC’s functioning in the future.
The Conclave was attended by Chairpersons and members of past and active State Finance Commissions of various States and representatives of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and experts from various academic institutions for Local Governance, Administration and Finance i. e. Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) and the Nation Institute of Public Finance and Policy(NIPFP).
Ms. Tashi Cho Cho, Chairperson, Ms. Roshni Rai, Member and Mr. Raj Narayan Pradhan, Member Secretary represented State Finance Commission, Sikkim in the National Conclave.
