Awareness cum Distribution program on Sustainable Agriculture & Benefit Distribution Program

Pakyong, June 17 (IPR): Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services in collaboration with Sikkim Govt. College, Rhenock organized an “Awareness cum Distribution program on Sustainable Agriculture and Benefit Distribution Program” under the aegis of “Mukhiya Mantri Krishi Atma Nirbhar Yojana” and “Mukhiya Mantri Pasudhan Samridhi Yojana” at Rhenock Government College Ground, today.
Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department Mr. L.N. Sharma graced the program as the Chief Guest in the presence of Area M.L.A Mr. B.K Khatiwara. Present among others were Chairman (S.C.C.S) Shri Santosh Pradhan, Secretary (Horticulture) Shri B.B Subba, Principal Director (Agriculture) Department Shri Tilak Gazmer, Principal Director (AH&VS) Dr. BN Chettri, Principal Director (Horticulture Department) Sadan Kumar Tamang, Director (Agriculture Department) Sonam Rinchen Bhutia, Joint Director (Agri/ Horti/AH & VS), SDM Rongli, Principal Rhenock Govt. College, BDO Rhenock, Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats and concerned department officials. The event was also attended by SHGs, progressive farmers and students of Rhenock Government College.
The prime objective of the program was to generate massive awareness of the importance of agriculture and livestock farming amongst students. The agricultural awareness campaign which has begun at Rhenock college will be taken up further in all schools so as to motivate students and people of respective areas.
Minister L.N Sharma outlined motivating phrases to attract students to the noble profession of farming. He highlighted pathbreaking schemes envisioned and initiated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri PS Tamang and underlined notable financial incentives being provided to the farmers under Mukhyamantri Krishi Aatma Nirbhar Yojana (MMKANY), Mukhya Mantri Pashudhan Samridhi Yojana (MMPSY) and Mukhya Mantri Matsya Utpadan Yojana (MMMUY). The state government has ensured the flow of funds to the villages, particularly the farming community, eventually, the transformative impact is getting visible within a short span of the last three years, he added.
Motivating the students, he stated “Agriculture is the greatest and fundamentally the most essential profession for human society. It is truly healthful, most useful and noble employment for the nation. Agriculture is a lucrative profession for sustainable growth that leads to the establishment of a self-reliant state”.
He also shared success stories of farmers and appealed to students to work as an ambassador for spreading awareness of farming. He also emphasized the advantages of farming in combating global environmental issues besides achieving sustainable growth through the life-saving profession.
He informed that the farmers of the Rhenock constituency received cheques of more than 86 lakhs, out of which four hundred and twenty farmers received dairy incentives of Rupees Seventeen lakh ninety-nine thousand one hundred and six (1799106) for the month of December 2021 to March 2022 and the remaining number of farmers were benefited under MMKANY.
He added that the department of AH&VS will begin Mobile Veterinary Vehicle to ensure veterinary services at the doorsteps of people in every nook and corner of all six districts. He also touched upon various schemes like Aama, Bahini, etc. He is pleased that the farmers have been coming forward to get agricultural machines and equipment which reflects the increasing interest of the people in agriculture, he added.
Hon’ble MLA Mr. Bishnu Khatiwara, expressed happiness for providing a huge amount of financial incentives, i.e. rupees 86 lakh for the farmers under Mukhyamantri Krishi Aatma Nirbhar Yojana. He also thanked concerned departments for organizing an awareness cum distribution program at Rhenock college and benefiting the local people at large. He also touched upon numerous efforts being made to transform the constituency in terms of Development.
The program was also addressed by the Principal of Rhenock College Shri Bidhan Subba. In his speech, he advised students to utilize acquired knowledge in practice. The program also saw the documentary presentation of a film produced by the Agriculture Department.
During the program, the Chief Guest Mr.L.N Sharma also handed over the cheques to various beneficiaries of Mukhiya Mantri Krishi Atma Nirbhar Yojana” and “Mukhiya Mantri Pasudhan Samridhi Yojana”.
Later, Minister L.N Sharma visited the greenhouse developed by the Sikkim Government Rhenock College. He applauded their efforts and assured to provide additional support further. He also interacted with the students and focused on knowing their perspectives on farming. He also elaborated tremendous scope of farming which can be amalgamated with advanced technology by the students in the future.
