Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad visits east district, Sikkim

Gangtok, 4th  December  (IPR): Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad made several visits of east district, Sikkim today. Hon’ble Governor first visited Zuluk village and interacted with the people of the area. On his way to Zuluk he undertook numerous stops in various places and appreciated the beauty and natural splendour of the surrounding areas like Tsongu Lake, Elephant Lake, Kanchenjuunga view point at Tukla, Zuluk view and Thambi view point.

Hon’ble Governor Shri Prasad also visited Gokul Publi School at Zuluk where students of the school welcomed him by singing patriotic songs which sprouted patriotism in the hearts of the visitors. Governor Prasad then interacted with school staffs and local guardians and stressed on the importance of education and upbringing as formative years which shapes one’s personality. During his visit to the school, Governor Prasad donated a sum of Rs. 25, 000 to school from Governor Fund as grant-in-aid. This was appreciated and thanked greatly by the school authorities.

After that, the Governor interacted with the local people at a home stay of the area. He urged them to ensure hospitality with the guests.
In his address, Hon’ble Governor spoke about the importance of village tourism as number of visitors has increased doubled in the state and stressed on rural youth to adopt tourism sector as sustainable livelihood. He said that hospitality sector is a booming sector and the state has numerous tourism points which should be explored and utilised. He encouraged the youths to be more pro-active and get in the tourism sector as it contributes tremendously to the pristine image of the state. He expressed his gratitude to the people of Zuluk for their dedication and encouraged all to be competitive, creative and preserve their local culture and environment which is rare and beautiful.
Hon’ble Governor also donated warm clothes to the elder citizens of Zuluk. This was received with great thankfulness and appreciation by the people of the area.

Later in the afternoon, Hon’ble Governor visited Rongli, where he was accorded warm welcome by Zilla Adhakshya of east district, Shri S.S Bokhim, SDM Rongli, Shri A. B. Gurung, officials of Rongli Sub-Division, general public of Rongli, teachers, students and local gentries at large.

In his short address, the Hon’ble Governor mentioned about the tremendous strides that the state has made in the field of Organic farming. He said that Sikkim is world renouned in that sphere and the world has a lot to learn from it. He also mentioned about how the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Modi refers to Sikkim with regards to its commitment towards the development in various spheres and specially in Organic farming.

“Organic Farming is a unique venture of its kind in the world. Sikkim has been appreciated globally and it has created new mile stone in organic farming by receiving Future Policy Gold Award. Now organic products of Sikkim will be available in Indian and world markets ” said Hon’ble Governor.

Governor commended the efforts made by state government and farmers of Sikkim towards rural development and skill development stating that such proactive initiatives have become all the more important in the current world.

Panchayats of different Gram Panchayat Units presented their demands and grievances like better road connectivity (Highway from Rorathang to Rongli), more central banks, mobile towers etc to the Hon’ble Governor. Hon’ble Governor took note of their demands and assured to look into it at the earliest.

Earlier, he also inspected organic stall which was displayed and enquirers about the whole process of farming and marketing which is sustainable and still technologically sound so that it benefits the farming community at large in the state.

Subsequently, Hon’ble Governor Shri Prasad visited Winter Raj Bhawan at Rangpo in the evening where he interacted with the business community of Rangpo bazaar.
While interacting with business community, he emphasized on regional economic diversity and said that we should all work for peace and prosperity and for sustainable growth of the state

Hon’ble Governor concludes his West Sikkim Visit


Gyalshing, 28th November, 2018 (IPR): The Hon’ble Governor Shri. Ganga Prasad on the 2nd and also the final day of his premier tour to West Sikkim interacted with the Government Officials of West Sikkim at the Bhanu Salig, Kyongsa. The District Collector along with SP West, ADC West and HoDs of different departments were present in the interaction program.
The Hon’ble Governor addressed the gathering of Government Officials and guests with his words of encouragement and advised them that their roles as Officials of the District is an important one. He also congratulated them for their respective roles in making Sikkim known not only to India but the entire world.
He advised the officials that their responsibility to the people and the state is huge and that their services would affect the future of Sikkim. Hence they must work with more enthuse and create newer milestones for the West District as well as for Sikkim and India. He mainly stressed on how the departments should be more involved in multiplying the agricultural and the horticultural produce of the state using various tools and techniques made available to them. He also advised them to find the right market to sell the surplus organic produce and generate more income for their economic stability. He further advised the DC to hold similar meetings of District Officials to understand the progress of the district and also visit rural areas more often to understand their perils and work out the possible solutions.
The program was conducted for the Governor to see and understand the District machinery at work and how the district was progressing. During the program various Departmental Heads presented their works in form of a PowerPoint presentation to the Hon’ble Governor briefly explaining him about their different projects and works in the district.

The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mr. Anant Kumar Hegde visited Temi Tea Garden

Namchi, 27th November(IPR) The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mr. Anant Kumar Hegde visited Temi Tea Garden today. He was accompained by the Secretary, Ms. C.C Bhutia and the Additional Secretary, Ms. Sunita Pradhan of Skill Development and Capacity Building.

At, the onset Minister Mr. Hedge took a tour of the tea factory wherein Managing Director Ms. Mrinalini Srivastava briefed about the tea making process, the garden’s history and how it received the organic certificate along with the present status of the garden. Ms. Srivastava also explained about the various facets of tea making including that of packaging and marketing the organic tea produce. Thereafter, tea manufacturing consultant Mr. Nalin Modha presented and tasted the variety of organic tea leaves produced at the garden namely Spring, Summer, Monsoon, Autumn, Green and White tea.

The Minister also chaired a meeting which had the participation of budding organic entrepreneur from Sikkim.He highlighted the significance of skill and entrepreneurship which is necessary in today’s changing world. He suggested if needed the Sikkim State Government to aid the entrepreneurs financially along with substantial assistance from the North East Council. He also extended that the entreprenuers should opt for global gap certificate in order to market the products at an international level. Mr. Hedge also implored that Sikkim should come up with vigorous branding of its premium organic products and cited the example of Kerela Government and how they have created a niche for themselves with regards to promoting of their products. He also proposed to form a Temi cluster wherein the emerging local business people can get support and elevation from the Ministry of Skill Development, Sikkim Government and other concerned departments. He also strongly endorsed that Sikkim State Government should boost the handicraft section of the State with aid from the North Eastern Council. The local handicraft vendors and producers should aim to showcase their products at the International Arts and Craft Fair which is supported by world bank.

During the course of meeting the Minister also interacted with the entrepreneurs in which they put forward the various challenges faced by them in terms of marketing their products and sought feedback from the Minister to retail the commodity.

Hon’ble Governor begins his premier tour of West Sikkim


Gyalshing, 27th November, 2018 (IPR): The Hon’ble Governor Shri. Ganga Prasad began his premier tour to West Sikkim today. The Hon’ble Governor was accompanied by MLA Yangthang, Ms. Chandra Maya Subba; Shri. K. B. Limboo, Chairman, Poultry Board; DC West; ADC West; SDPO and HODs of Line Departments.
The Hon’ble Governor visited the famous Pemayangtse Monastery where Captain Yongda accompanied the Governor whilst explaining the Monasterys inception, Genesis and other aspects. He then visited the Sidkeong Tulku Bird Park at Rabdentse followed by the visit to Chenrezig Shingkham Riwo Potala, after which he proceeded towards Chumbung Gram Prasashan Kendra (GPK) where he interacted with public and progressive farmers of Chumbung GPU.
In his brief address to the public gathered at the Chumbung GPK he expressed his gratitude for being able to visit West Sikkim which he feels is blessed in all aspects. He mentioned that the farmers role towards the promotion of Organic Farming is massive and their effort towards this mission has not been futile. He urged the public to participate more actively in spreading Organic Farming in the state. He also advised the District Administration and public to work cooperatively and excel in the state in regards to Organic Farming and other similar activities. He further presented a token of gratitude to the GPK for their hospitality.

The Hon’ble Governor also visited the Khecheopalri Lake and Darap where he spent time with the Panchayats and locals. Thus, concluding the 1st day of his 2 days visit of the West District of Sikkim.
The Hon’ble Governor is scheduled to meet the District Officials of West Sikkim tomorrow prior to his departure for Gangtok.

Hon’ble Governor Shri. Ganga Prasad and First Lady Smt. Kamala Devi arrives at Pelling, West Sikkim.

Gyalshing, 26th November, 2018 (IPR): The Hon’ble Governor Shri. Ganga Prasad accompanied by the First Lady Smt. Kamala Devi arrives West Sikkim for his official 2 days visit of the West District of Sikkim.
The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim is scheduled to interact with public and farmers of Chumbong GPU along with the tentative visitation of Rabdentse, Chenrezig Shingkham Riwo Potala, Pemayangtse, Darap and Khecheopari along with some other places of interests in West Sikkim.

Golden jubilee celebration at Temi tea garden attended by the Hon’ble Governor Of Sikkim Mr. Ganga Prasad along with the first lady Ms. Kamala Devi

Namchi, 26th November(IPR): The Governor Mr. Ganga Prasad along with first lady Ms. Kamala Devi attended the prelude of the golden jubilee celebration at Temi tea garden today. Present amongst others were Managing Director Ms.
Mrinalini Srivastava, Manager Mr. L.T. Bhutia and the tea garden workers at large.

The Governor visited the Temi tea factory wherein he engaged with the factory workers, gauged the various organic tea production and tasted the variety of teas including the final autumn flush.

Addressing, the gathering Governor Mr. Prasad extended his congratulations to the Temi tea fraternity in successfully accomplishing the journey towards the golden jubliee celebration. He applauded how the tea garden has flourished since it’s inception in 1969 and attributed towards the hard work of the tea garden workers alongside stakeholders and the Sikkim State Government. Additionally, he encouraged the garden workers to work with diligence as this garden has it’s own unique legacy which is the premium organic tea garden of Sikkim. The Governor highlighted that the tea garden attracts a huge number of domestic and international tourist and urged the attendees to maintain the garden’s heritage and to further aim to reach golden heights through the production of quality tea leaves which is filled with it’s own character, aroma and rich organic flavour thereby bringing laurels to the state.

The Governor and the first lady also distributed the various aids to the tea workers as a part of the golden jubilee celebration. Earlier, the Governor visited NHPC Teesta Stage V Hydro Electric Power Project at Balutar in which Chief Engineer In-Charge Mr. S. Khatuwa briefed the Governor on the production and various other functioning of the project.

The Governor Shri Ganga Prasad’s visit to DAV, Public School at Rangit Nagar

Namchi, 26th November(IPR): The Governor Mr. Ganga Prasad visited DAV, Public School at Rangit Nagar today. Present amongst others were Principal In charge Mr. N.C. Jha , General Manager in-Charge Rangit Power Station NHPC Mr. A. K. Grover alongside teachers and students at large.

Addressing, the gathering Governor Mr. Prasad spoke in brief about the excellent performance of DAV Public School and urged the students to aim for greater height in the future. The Governor detailed about the historical background of the school, it’s establishment and updated that DAV schools also function in various parts of the country. Additionally, the Governor brought to light that this DAV school should focus to be one of a kind school in Sikkim wherein the education is at par to an international standard. The Governor informed that education is extremely important for the holistic development of the students which shapes the life of any students. With regards to education the Governor implored that it is in the hands of the teacher to provide quality education and thus they should hone the overall skill and talent of the students.

Principal -in-Charge presented a brief school report in which he elucidated that the co-educational higher secondary DAV school was established in the year 1995 by the acclaimed DAV group of institution. The school provides state of art, science and computer laboratories , library, indoor hall and highly enabled teachers.

During the course of the program Governor Mr. Prasad was also felicitated by Rangit Nagar NHPC limited along with the institute.

The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad adopted the Navey Shotak G.P.U under Kabi-Tingda BAC

Kabi Tingda, 24 November (IPR):The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Ganga Prasad adopted the Navey Shotak G.P.U under Kabi-Tingda BAC.

A program to this effect was presided over by the Hon’ble Governor Shri Ganga Prasad at the school ground of Government Secondary School Penlong, North Sikkim. Also gracing the adoption program was the Minister for Rural Management & Development Department, Shri S.B Subedi, Area MLA Shri Ugen Nedup, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, Secretary RMDD, Panchayats, Panchayat Presidents, Officials and staff of the Rural Management & Development Department, locals and students from the adjoining schools were also gathered at the program.

The Hon’ble Governor presented a Scooty ( two-wheeler) to the Panchayat President- Tashi Doma as a token of the adoption of the GPU.The two wheeler was presented to facilitate the progress of the GPU.

The Panchayat President of Navey Shotak GPU-Tashi Doma, while welcoming the Hon’ble Governor said that it is a matter of great satisfaction and happiness that the GPU is being adopted by the Hon’ble Governor and stated that this initiative would further accelerate the headways that the GPU is creating .

The Hon’ble Governor in his address expressed happiness at this opportunity of interaction with the people of the GPU. He verbalized his pleasure on adopting the Navey Shotak GPU and mentioned that the evolvement of all the villages falling under the GPU would be taken up on a pilot basis. He reflected on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi that the real India lives in the villages and stated that the life and struggle of rural India resonates with him as he also has his roots in rural India and went on to inform that all initiatives and necessary collaborations for the progress of the GPU would be overseen by him from his level of authority. He solicited the active participation and support of the people of the GPU for the success of this venture.

He shared that compared to many parts of the country, the rural populace in Sikkim are advanced and progressive in many fronts and that they have made a mark for themselves in rural management and development. The Hon’ble Governor recalled his recent visits to many parts of the State and expressed satisfaction at the progress that he observed in terms of organic farming and livestock rearing. He spoke about the various initiatives of the state government that are in synchrony with flagship schemes of the central government which are aimed towards uplifting the farmers of the country.
He was highly appreciative of the unity and co-ordination of the Sikkimese towards taking the state to the pinnacles of success and stated that this unique characteristic of Sikkim needs to be replicated by the rest of the country. The Hon’ble Governor spoke about the Future Policy Gold Award that was awarded to the Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling and added that this recognition further corroborates the distinction of the policies that are being formulated and adopted by the state government.

The Hon’ble Governor also addressed the young minds present at the program and enunciated that they are the future of the GPU, the state and the country and hence they must strive for excellence in all aspects. The Hon’ble Governor concluded his address with the clarion call of “Afno gaon Afai banao”.

The Honble Minister for RMDD/ Shri S.B Subedi while addressing the program articulated that the adoption of the Navey Shotak GPU by the Hon’ble Governor has added a whole new dimension to the GPU. He remarked that with the adoption coming to effect from today, many discussions and deliberations will now be held as to what and how policies can be framed and implemented to take the GPU on the path to progress and hence the authorities and the locals must come together so that this noble enterprise of the Hon’ble Governor comes to fruition. He spoke about how the amendment of the Panchayat Act has empowered the Panchayati Raj functionaries on a whole new level . He concluded his address with encouragement to all to make the best of the organic farming state status of Sikkim ,which he added, is a momentous ladder for the state on the path of success.

MLA Kabi-Lungchok, Shri Ugen Nedup, in his address extended gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor for adopting the GPU and communicated his positivity that the initiative of the Governor would bring achievements and gratification to the GPU.

Additional Chief Secretary/ Raj Bhawan Dr K Jayakumar also put across his pleasure in being associated with the Navey GPU and highlighted the necessity of inculcating the habit of self sufficiency amongst the area locals as this attribute is what will take the village towards advancement and development. He asserted that a comprehensive development targetted towards Gram Swaraj should be adopted in the GPU starting right from the community level that would include ventures like community radio stations and a community enterprise centre and addressed the Panchayat functionaries to take note of this.

Secretary RMDD- Shri CS Rao,while speaking to the assembly congratulated the GPU for being selected for adoption by the Hon’ble Governor and said that this will greatly facilitate the GPU towards becoming an Adarsh Gaon- an ideal village. He called upon all to make sense of the golden opportunity that has come their way and take optimum benefit of this chance.

The program concluded with the Vote of thanks delivered by ADC/Development, Mangan-Shri KR Limboo.

Cultural performances by students from schools in and around the area added a joyous mood to the adoption programme. The Hon’ble Governor also presented tokens of appreciation to the participating school students.

Earlier, the Hon’ble Governor visited the Navey Shotak Gram Prashashan Kendra where he was accorded a warm welcome by the Panchayat and RMDD Officials. At the GPK he presided over a Power Point Presentation on the GPU Profile showcasing the existing schemes, progress & achievements and the fields requiring intervention. The Hon’ble Governor visited the display pavilion where handicrafts and organic vegetables and readymade eatables were set up by the SRLM SHGs of the area in his honour.

After the program at the school ground, the Hon’ble Governor participated in a plantation drive at the Nyingma Institute of Higher Studies situated in the area wherein Rhododendron Saplings were planted. He also visited the Sheda Campus and interacted with the students there.

Hon’ble Governor Mr. Ganga Prasad offered prayers at Siddheshwara Dham, Namchi

Namchi, 13th November(IPR): On the auspicious occasion of Chhath Puja Hon’ble Governor Mr. Ganga Prasad and the first lady Mrs. Kamala Devi offered prayer at Siddheshwara Dham, Namchi today. Amongst others present were DC (South) Mr. Prabhakar Verma, SSP (South) Mr. Shami Rai, SDM (HQ) Mr. Hemant Rai, SDM ( Ravangla) Mr. Jigme W Bhutia alongside other officials.

It maybe mentioned that Chhath Puja is one of the most ancient Hindu Vedic festivals which is widely celebrated in the country. Chhath Puja is dedicated to the worship of the Sun god or Surya Dev and his wife Goddess Usha.

Thereafter, Hon’ble Governor and the first lady also visited Tathagata Tsal wherein they both took a brief tour of the premises, visited the main shrine of the Tsal and extended their prayers.

Hon’ble Governor Shri Ganga Prasad called on Shri Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister of Bihar at his office at Patna

Nov 12: (IPR) Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad called on Shri Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar at his office in Patna on 10 th November 2018. It was a courtesy call by the Hon’ble Governor during his stay at Patna.

In a brief interaction with Hon’ble Governor, Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar suggested and offered to provide logistics for building a guest house for Sikkimese pilgrims at Bodhgaya. It may be mentioned that thousands of Sikkimese people congregate at Bodhgaya for annual
spiritual sojourn during the month of December and January.

Hon’ble Governor thanked the Chief Minister for his goodwill gesture towards Sikkim and said that such infrastructure will certainly help the people to people bonding between Sikkim and Bihar.
