Soreng, August 6: A district-level sanitization and awareness program on SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) and scholarship schemes under the Social Welfare Department Government of Sikkim was organized to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav at the conference hall of 40- Samsing Pipalay GPU under BAC Baiguney on 5th August 2022.
The Chief Guest for the program was Shri Kamal Ghataney, Panchayat Vice-President. Accompanying him were Panchayat members, Shri Aita Raj Tamang, Smt. Parvati Rai and Smt. Kumari Sharma along with officials and staff of BAC Baiguney, ASHA and other health workers including teachers, students and local gentry.
Shri Manoj Subba and Miss Tashi Doma Bhutia, Advocate, Soreng District Court and Shri H.B Khati, ASHO, Nayabazar were the resource person for the program.
The resource person, Shri Manoj Subba spoke about the caste system prevalent in the olden days. He also emphasized the subject matter of gradual emancipation of caste in Indian society. He further talked about various legal provisions of the Indian Constitution, especially under Article 17.
The resource person, Miss Tashi Doma Bhutia mainly talked about how this offense of atrocities would attract non-ST & SC people. She also talked about various landmark rulings of the apex court of India, where the cases of atrocities were handled. She also emphasized the topic of the Domestic Violence Act and the POCSO Act. Smt. Prativa Tamang, Senior Welfare Officer, Soreng talked about the various scholar schemes of Centre and State, Pre-matric, Post-matric scholarship of SCs, STs, Centre OBCs and Minorities.
