Education Department organizes Inter-school Quiz Competition at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College

Inter-school Quiz Competition on the theme “Awareness of G20 and its activities” was organized by the Education Department in collaboration with District Education Office, Gangtok at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College Auditorium, Tadong on 18th March 2023.
As Sikkim was chosen to host two important events as part of India’s G20 Presidency, in this regard, the main objective of the Quiz was to create awareness and develop knowledge among the students regarding the G20 Summit.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Ashis Sharma, Khangchendzonga State University, Sikkim, was the Chief Guest of the Day. The event was also attended by Special Guest from the Education Department, Director (Secondary Education) Shri. K. C. Gyatso.
Other dignitaries included Chief Education Officer, Gangtok Smt. Tseringkee Chingapa, Additional Secretary (HE) Shri Ujjwal Rai, Principal of NBBG College Dr. D. Purohit, Adm./NBBG College Smt. Doma Zimba, Joint Director (Adm.)/Samagra Shiksha Shri. Rapgay Bhutia, officials and staff from the District Education Office, Gangtok along with a grand audience of teachers and students from various schools.
The CEO, Gangtok in her welcome address quoted Alvin Toffler and said “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn”. She then welcomed the esteemed Guests, spoke about the importance of the ongoing G20 Summit and extended her best wishes to the participating schools and the Quiz team.
The Quiz Competition was then conducted by the Quiz team from Biraspati Parsai Sr. Sec. School, Ranipool with Smt. Ambika Chettri (PGT Eng.) as the Quiz Mistress of the day. A total of eight Sr. Sec. Schools under the Gangtok district participated in the competition with great enthusiasm and each team comprised three class 12 students representing their schools.
The Chief Guest, while addressing the gathering, congratulated all the participants, and shared encouraging words with the youth by saying that all individuals are unique and rather than competing and comparing with others, they should learn to focus on self-development. He said along with IQ, we should be focusing on the improvement of AQ (Adversity Quotient), the ability of a person to deal with adversities in their life.
Tadong SSS represented by Md. Sahabaj Ali (XII-Sci.), Kiran Kumari (XII-Sci.) and Krrish Das Darjee (XII-Sci.) won the first prize. West Point SSS represented by Gunjan Rai (XII-Hum.), Arpita Pandey (XII-Sci.) and Dil Hangma Limboo (XII-Hum.) bagged the second position while Bojoghari SSS represented by Sonam Ongmu Lepcha (XII-Hum.), Anshu Thakur (XII-Hum.) and Zegdel Bhutia (XII-Com.) came third.
The winners were awarded cash prizes and all participants were given Certificates of Participation.
The overall programme was hosted by Dr. Hannah Yonzan (Joint Director, Gangtok District) and concluded with the Director (SE) proposing the vote of thanks.
