Hon’ble Governor, Shri Ganga Prasad granted an audience to representatives and students of Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association (SLYA) at Raj Bhavan

Gangtok, 30th Jan (IPR): The Hon’ble Governor, Shri Ganga Prasad granted an audience to representatives and students of Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association (SLYA) at Raj Bhavan.

Hon’ble Governor interacted with school students of Lepcha and other communities of class X and XII who are undergoing winter coaching camp organized by SLYA in collaboration with the State Education Department for final year students of Class X & XII. The association has been encouraging such coaching camps since 1997.

Encouraging the young minds, in his speech Hon’ble Governor urged the students to inculcate the competitive spirit in them so that they can equate themselves at par with the other students as several institutions provide a wide range of opportunity.

The Governor also handed over a cheque of Rs. 51 thousand to the association as a discretionary grant from Raj Bhavan. He further announced to sponsor students of Lepcha community excelling in board exams.

Hon’ble Governor expressed his gratitude to the association for their initiatives and encouraged them to organize more such coaching camps across the State in the near future.

During the programme, Hon’ble Governor also felicitated teachers and members of the association and students of coaching camp who shared their experiences.

As a token of gratitude, SLYA offered Lepcha musical instrument ‘Tungbuk’ to the Governor.

The function also witnessed participation of Addl. Secretary, Thakur Thapa, Officials of Raj Bhavan and representatives of the association.
