Gangtok, September 12 (IPR): Hon’ble Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Education, Government of India, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh visited the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms at Zero Point, today, as a part of his three-day-long visit to the State of Sikkim.
The Minister was received by Deputy Director of Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms Smt Kumari Chettri and Officials of the Directorate.
The Minister took the stock of the handicrafts and handlooms, which are on display.
Thereafter, the Minister also visited the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT) at Deorali.
The MoS was welcomed by Deputy Director, NIT, Smt. Tashi Chuki, along with Museum Assistant, NIT, Ms. Samten Choden, Research Officer, Shri Tsultim Gyatso, and the staff of NIT.
Dr.Singh toured the museum and appreciated its showcase of Tibetan iconography and religious art. He also took a tour of the NIT library where he made various queries about the digitization of the scriptures and expressed his admiration for the Institute for being a house of knowledge.
Later in the evening, the Minister also visited M.G.Marg, Gangtok, where he was accorded a warm welcome by Deputy Mayor GMC Smt Tshering Palden Bhutia, Councillors Shri Sundeep Malu, Smt Bindhya Cintury and Smt Diki Lhamu Lepcha
