Gangtok, Dec 02 (IPR): With an aim to take the Jan Andolan Campaign on Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour to educational institutions in the State, the IPR Department, Government of Sikkim, launched its first school intervention today. Sichey Senior Secondary School was chosen as the first school for the campaign. The team of IPR Department was led by Assistant Director, Research & Documentation Cell, Shri Simon Subba.
The programme had the presence and participation of Smt. Yangchuk Donka, Principal, Sichey Senior Secondary School, and faculty members of the school. It was attended by around fifty students from classes 6 to 10.
The Principal in her opening remarks expressed her happiness that Sichey SSS had been chosen for the campaign. She emphasized the need to sensitize the students about the appropriate behaviour to be adopted to stay safe from Covid-19. The Principal thanked the team from IPR Department for the intervention and stated that the school would take the key messages from the Campaign and educate the students through innovative methods.
A comprehensive presentation on Jan Andolan: Appropriate Behaviour was made by the officials of the Department covering the three key messages of wearing masks, hand hygiene and social distancing. Other aspects covered were the types of masks and their usage, myths and misconceptions about Covid-19, issues about stigma and types of food to improve immunity. A hands-on demonstration was also made to explain how the Covid-19 virus spreads from one person to another.
Later, Covid-19 kits comprising of masks, sanitizers, gloves, notebook and a pen, was presented by Social Worker Smt Sushma Gurung of the Sushma Organization to the principal of the school for distribution to the students.
It may be recalled that the Jan Andolan Campaign on Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on the 8th of October, 2020. The country-wide campaign aims to educate people from all walks of life to adopt ways to stay safe from the virus. It was launched keeping in mind the festivals and the ensuing winter season. IPR Department, Government of Sikkim, is the nodal department to coordinate and collaborate with all other Departments to effectively implement the campaign in the State. The Department aims to take the Campaign to other schools and even colleges in near future.
