GANGTOK, 21 June 2022: Shri Nishith K. Mohanty, Group President – Human Resources & Academia, of the globally acclaimed Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG), made a courtesy call on Shri Kunga Nima, Hon’ble Minister, Department of Education, Government of Sikkim, at his office in Tashiling Secretariat here today. He was accompanied by Dr. (Lt. Gen.) Rajan S. Grewal, Vice-Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University (SMU). Shri Mohanty is here on a 3-days visit to SMU.
Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Lepcha acknowledged the significant contributions of SMU & its institutes, colleges and departments in imparting value-added, multi-disciplinary higher education to the youth of the State and the North East region.
Shri Lepcha praised the vision and selfless service of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang towards the all-around development of the State with major emphasis on the healthcare and education sectors. He deeply appreciated the commendable work done by the Manipal Group in Sikkim in the development of these key sectors. He also lauded SMU for all the services provided to the people of Sikkim. He further expressed his confidence that the Manipal Group will continue to serve the state of Sikkim in all possible ways.
Focused campaigns undertaken by SMU on AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan targeted towards Sikkim & North-East region, in consonance with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi were also deliberated during the meeting. The Hon’ble Education Minister was also apprised of the commendable achievements of Atal Incubation Centre: SMU Technology Business Incubator (AIC-SMUTBI) in supporting startups and entrepreneur ecosystem in the State and the North East region. The various progressive educational strategies and noteworthy initiatives are taken by SMU and its constituents in giving impetus to leverage National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, by offering a large number of flexible value-added, multi-disciplinary courses, programs, capsules & electives, for the aspirational students of Sikkim and the North East region were also highlighted.
During the meeting, Shri Mohanty, on behalf of the Manipal Group and SMU, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Sikkim under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang. He also thanked the Hon’ble Education Minister for the valued support and enabling cooperation extended by him and the Government of Sikkim.
He added that the Manipal Group is dedicated to the holistic development of the youth of Sikkim in education, and high-quality healthcare through its multi-specialty tertiary care Central Referral Hospital (CRH), Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON), Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy (SMCPT) and SMU Departments of Humanities & Social Sciences, Hospital Administration and Medical Biotechnology.
Dr. (Lt. Gen.) Rajan S. Grewal, Vice-Chancellor, SMU also thanked the Hon’ble Minister and the Government of Sikkim for the praiseworthy support and encouragement to SMU. He said that SMU will further strive to rededicate itself in the service of the students, youth, patients and citizens of Sikkim.
Shri Mohanty, during his visit to SMU, held meetings with various Heads of Institutes, Units and Departments to review the progress and proactively addressed the various issues pertaining to human resource management, excellence in academic, trans-disciplinary research and healthcare strategies.
