NCPCR team members meet with NGOs and CWC members

Gyalshing, 19 Oct (IPR): The preparatory meeting for the upcoming National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Bench scheduled to be held on 22nd Oct, 2019 was conducted at the conference hall of Zilla Bhawan in Gyalshing West Sikkim.

The preparatory meeting was chaired by DC West, Shri Karma R. Bonpo; ADC West, Shri Karma L. Lepcha; Smt. Shaista K. Shah, STE, NCPCR Co-coordinator of the team along with Ms. Bhavna Bajaj, Senior Consultant (NCPCR); Ms. Urvashi Jain, Consultant (NCPCR); Ms. Bharti, DEO (NCPCR) and Ms. Roshnila Gurung, DCPO (South/West).

The DC West in his address mentioned that the NCPCR visit to the West District is an opportunity for the Officials and public to understand about the Child Rights. He also mentioned that the visit could address the short comings and is a chance to improve the policies which can be steered towards child rights development.

Shri Bonpo also encouraged the CWCs and NGOs to give full support and active participation. He also mentioned that the meeting can be an opportunity for the Administration to streamline the entire machinery which could benefit the children at large. He also mentioned that proper sensitization to the public for the upcoming program has been done.

Smt. Shaista K. Shah highlighted the main purpose of the NCPCR Bench was to improve the Health and Education indicators of the Aspirational Districts of NITI AAYOG for which the NCPCR has been conducting programs in the North East.

She also mentioned that NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR PROTECTION OF CHILD RIGHTS (NCPCR) is a statutory body of the Government of India formed under the CPCR Act, 2007. The core mandate of the Commission is to enable all children to enjoy their rights as enshrined in Constitution and provisioned under different Acts/Laws.

The NCPCR team interacted with the NGOs and CWC members where the procedures in relation to the Report Filing and other elements were explained. She urged the NGOs to give their full participation during the sitting of Bench. She also addressed them that the NGOs, CWC, CCI and Child Helpline are the main people to keep check on the Child Rights Violation in the district and State.

The Commission is visiting the West District to take the public’s complaints against any child rights violation. Any Person including children, parent, guardian, caretaker or any other individual working for child right can submit their complaint before NCPCR.
