Gangtok, 28th March:(IPR) The Mission Directorate, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Rural Management & Development Department organised the orientation session for the team of ‘Swachhagrahis’ who have been selected to be deputed in Champaran, Bihar for the ensuing ‘Satyagraha Se Swachhagraha’ event.
The session was chaired by Shri Anil Raj Rai, Special Secretary cum Mission Director, SBM (Gramin) and was attended by the Deputy Secretary cum State Co-ordinator, SBM (Gramin). The Under Secretary, SBM (Gramin) Directorate made the presentation. The Mission Director congratulated the Swachhagrahis for the opportunity and asked them to ensure the success and reputation of the state in the field of sanitation is maintained and disseminated through their efforts in the event.
Sikkim has selected 10 Panchayat Development Assistants, RM&DD who function as Swachhagrahis for their respective GPUs and have done exemplary work in the field of sanitation. The team would be led by the Panchayat Inspector, Office of ADC (Dev.), Pakyong, RM&DD.
The event is being organised from the 3rd to 10th April, 2018 by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Bihar to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha centenary. About 10,000 Swachhagrahis from across the country, along with another 10,000 Swachhagrahis from Bihar, will be participating in the event, where they will trigger rural communities from 3rd to 9th April, 2018 for better sanitation, health and hygiene outcomes. The event will culminate at Champaran on 10th April, 2018, where the Hon’ble Prime Minister will grace the occasion and address the Swachhagrahis.
