Award of PhD Degree to Mrs Sherap Shenga, Spl Secretary, IPR Department, Govt of Sikkim

GANGTOK: Senior bureaucrat in the Government of Sikkim, Mrs. Sherap Shenga has successfully defended her Ph.D thesis on 6th January 2018, entitled “Future Prospects of Eco-Tourism in Sikkim with Special Reference to Cultural Tourism”. Mrs Shenga carried out her research under the guidance Brig. (Dr.) S N Mishra, Former Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University Sikkim (SMU), and Prof. (Dr.) Ajeya Jha, Head, Dept. of Management Studies, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT).
Born to Mrs and Mr N.C Shenga, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests cum Secretary (IFS), and a resident of forest colony Gangtok, Mrs Shenga is a post graduate from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and presently employed in the state government of Sikkim and posted as Director cum-Special Secretary, Department of Information and Public Relations. She did her schooling from Mount Hermon School, Darjeeling and graduated from Lady Shriram College New Delhi. She joined the state government in 1986 and since then has held several different posts including a deputation as Registrar to the Sikkim Manipal University for a period of four and half years from 2006-2011. She had earlier worked in the department of Tourism between 1994-2000. Her interests are in the field of nature conservation and cultural preservation as well as Buddhist studies. She is also a member of the National Geographic Society since 2005.
The Doctor of Philosophy Degree will be awarded to her during the forthcoming Convocation of SMU.
