North Sikkim celebrates World Environment Day ’19

Mangan, 05 Jun (IPR): North District celebrated World Environment Day in the district by planting numbers of saplings of different species in different areas of the district.

During the programme, Mangan Forest Range undertaken the following work:

  1. Cleaning of the entire plantation site from Rafom Khola Road side to DC office gate
  2. Plantation of various sapling specially Nilkamal, Indrakamal and Azelia (700 Nos.) from Rafom Khola road side to DC office gate
  3. Creation of “Smriti Van” alongwith participation of the public and JFMJC members at Mangshila
  4. Avenue plantation was done at Naga block near forest area.

Bamboo plantation was also done at Mangan, Maling area by Horticulture department as part of World Environment Day.

Similarly, World Environment Day was also celebrated at Phamtam Junior High School, Kabi Block and Teesta Urja Ltd.

SMU heads call on Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri P.S. Tamang

Gangtok, 05 Jun (IPR): Vice Chancellor, Manipal University, Lieutenant General (Dr) M.D. Venkatesh (VSM, Retd.), called on Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri P.S. Tamang (Golay) at his office today. He was accompanied by Director, SMIT, Professor (Dr.) Ashish Sharma, and Registrar, SMU, Prof. (Dr.) Karma Sonam Sherpa.

It was a courtesy call by the VC who congratulated the Hon’ble CM and expressed his happiness on behalf of the fraternity on wishing him personally.

Shri Venkatesh extended his full cooperation and support in all the developmental policies of the State government and assured full solidarity.

The Hon’ble CM thanked the VC for the kind words and extended all possible support and cooperation.

SO, Central Tibetan Administration calls on Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri P.S. Tamang

Gangtok, 05 Jun (IPR): Settlement Officer (SO), Central Tibetan Administration, Ms. Mingyur Youdon, called on Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri P.S. Tamang (Golay). She was accompanied by many other senior members of the community.

The SO along with her team expressed happiness and congratulated the Hon’ble CM. They expressed their happiness in being able to personally congratulate the CM and stated their hopefulness for more peace and prosperity under his guidance. They put forward their issues which was promised to be taken into consideration by the CM.

Ms. Youdon also expressed their unconditional support to work towards a State free of casteism, creed and any cultural differences.

MLA Soreng and DM West visit Landslide victims in Soreng

Gyalshing, 05 Jun (IPR): Due to heavy rainfall last night in West district, a landslide occurred at Soreng due to which the house belonging to Shri Bhaichung Sherpa was completely damaged. However, no loss of life was reported.

Following the same, Hon’ble Area MLA, Shri Aditya Golay, along with District Collector, West, Shri Karma R. Bonpo, and team of officials from Soreng Sub-division inspected the site.

Tarpulins and necessary items were provided to the affected person. A protective wall was also sanctioned to prevent the landslide. It was informed that ex-gratia as per norms will be provided to the owner of the affected house at the earliest.

West district celebrates World Environment Day

Gyalshing, 05 Jun (IPR): District Level World Environment Day of West Sikkim was celebrated at the auditorium hall of Dodak Secondary School, West Sikkim today in the presence of District Magistrate, West, Shri Karma R. Bonpo, as chief guest.

Also present in the programme were Additional District Collector (Development), Soreng Sub-divison, District Forest Officer, Social Forestry, Land Use, Wildlife, Territorial, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Range Officers, Block Officers and Forest Guards of different division from the Forest Department, Panchayat Members, students from various school along with local residents of Dodak.

The DC West addressed the gathering wherein he highlighted the importance of the environment and preservation of it. He mentioned that the State of Sikkim is blessed with good environment and rich biodiversity, therefore, it’s the duty and responsibility of every Sikkimese citizen to protect and conserve it.

The programme started with the ceremonial plantation by the DC West followed by a rally wherein the students from various schools displayed placards showcasing awareness about environmental protection and conservation. There were cultural programmes,painting and quiz competition organised by the school.

Mass plantation drive was also carried out wherein 210 saplings were planted at the school premises.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and prizes to the winners of the quiz competition, cultural programme and painting competitions.

Similarly, various parts of West district also celebrated World Environment Day in a grand manner.
