A meeting with Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner and all Councillors of Gangtok Municipal Corporation and some shop keepers of Lall Bazar was held in the Conference Hall of Gangtok Municipal Corporation on 23rd May, 2022 to discuss the launch of Shramik Samparka Abhiyaan.
Secretary, Labour Department appraised the on-line registration of shops and commercial establishment under the Sikkim Shops and Commercial Act, 1983, individual registration of workers under Sikkim Labour (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2021, registration of workers as beneficiaries under Building and Other Construction Act, 1996 and Labour Clearance Certificate. Workers can also avail these facilities by registering themselves on-line which in turn would decrease the gatherings at the Checkposts. Secretary acknowledged the support and coordination received from Councillors and Panchayats on registration of workers in both rural and urban areas. She further requested all the Councilors to kindly assist the Labour Department in organizing awareness programme in all the Constituency of Sikkim so that the workers can be made aware about the Labour Laws enforced in the State of Sikkim.
She further stressed upon mandatory registration of individual workers working in Sikkim and informed that no principal employer or employer or service provider or sub-service provider or owner of establishment to which the Sikkim Labour (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2021 applies shall employ worker in the establishments unless a worker possesses a registration card under the said Act.
Commissioner, GMC stressed that a joint inspection of shops and commercial establishment should be conducted at an early date to check the defaulters and the number of employees engaged in the shops and as suggested by all the Councillors, banners/hoardings on Labour Laws in Nepali language should be installed at a prominent place in all the wards of Municipal Areas for information to all
