Road and Dam-site Inspection by DC Soreng and Officials from District Administrative Centre, Soreng

Soreng, May 24 (IPR): A daylong local tour to inspect the alarming landslides situated along the state highway between Pipalay and Baiguney was conducted by the DC Soreng Shri Bhim Thatal and other Officials. His team included ADC Soreng Shri Dhiraj Subedi, SDM Soreng Shri Ranjan Rai, RO/AD (LR&DM) Shri B.B. Rai, SI Naya Bazar PS Shri Rinzing Lepcha along with the officials from Department of LR&DM and Roads and Bridges.
During the inspection of the landslides many concerning issues especially during the Monsoon season, such as the houses at close proximity of the landslides, inconvenience to be faced by the commuter, traffic congestion and other issues were highlighted and discussed thoroughly by the visiting delegates. DC Shri Thatal enquired all the properties located in and around the landslide zone. He has asked the concerned department to provide another temporary alternative for those who might have to be shifted, if and when needed. Regarding the issues related to traffic, he directed the concerned to construct speed-breakers along the length of the road wherever necessary and as per the prevailing rules. Adding to this, he has instructed the police authorities to take stern actions against over speeding vehicles and drivers who are engaged on their phones while driving. Simultaneously, the personnel at the fuel pump have also been asked to submit a weekly report on availed stock to the Disaster Management Office for the purpose of rationing during the monsoon season.
Next the entourage visited construction dam site of Reshi along with the NHPC officials. He directed the officials to provide proper drainage system and to widen pedestrian walk-in road diversion tunnel of Reshi. He interacted and inquired Deputy Engineer of the Hydel project to submit identity documents of labours to Reshi bazar police station for proper record keeping. The team then visited the desilting chambers on the damsite and other adjacent areas of the Project. He has also instructed the site manager of the NHPC to ensure strict adherence to the labour laws and stipulated standards concerning the working hours and over-time works
