Gyalshing, 22nd February (IPR): The closing ceremony of five days long block-level first inter-school junior Olympic games under “Sports for Peace and Development” 2020-2021 was held at the playground of Soreng Senior Secondary School, today. It was organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Soreng under the direction of Hon’ble Chief Minister in collaboration with RDD (Rural Development Department).
The event was attended by the Hon’ble Advisor Sports and Youth Development Board (SYDB)Shri Megnath Subba as the Chief Guest along with AD/Education Department, Shri M.K. Khewa, AD/Sports and Youth Affairs Soreng, Smt. Mamita Gurung, Panchayats and student participants.
The Chief Guest, addressing the present gathering, congratulated and appreciated the efforts of the participants. He further said that winning and losing is a part of the game, participation matters the most.
Smt. Mamita Gurung urged to organise such events which provide a platform for the students to display their talents in different activities in the days to come. She also stated that she will extend all possible support and platform to those aspirants. She highlighted the talent hunt in the coming days and informed that seven to twelve years of aspirants can participate. She further encouraged all to participate in such activities at the present gathering.
The competition witnessed the participation of more than five hundred students from fifteen reputed schools under Soreng Block to showcase the talent in table tennis, athletic, football, karate and badminton.
The event saw the final match of football and badminton simultaneously. The four football matches of under fourteen and seventeen boys and girls played between Chota Samdong Senior Secondary School v/s Dodak Secondary School (Under-14 Boys), Soreng Senior Secondary School v/s Buriakhop Senior Secondary School (Under-17 Girls), Bojek Junior High School v/s Buriakhop Senior Secondary School (Under-14 Girls), Buriakhop Senior Secondary School v/s Timburbong Secondary School (Under-17 Boys).
Dodak Secondary School (3-0), Soreng Senior Secondary School (8-0), Bojek Junior High School (4-0), Buriakhop Senior Secondary School (2-0) were declared the winner.
The event also witnessed the four final matches of badminton played between Don Bosco Malbasay v/s Ken High School (Under-14 Boys), Himalayan Academy School v/s Ken High School (Under-14 Girls), Soreng Senior Secondary School v/s Himalayan Academy School (Under-17 Boys), Ken High School v/s Himalayan Academy School (Under-17 Girls).
Don Bosco Malbasay followed by Himalayan Academy were declared the winner. The participants were felicitated with medals and certificates.
The event was concluded with the declaration by the Chief Guest.
