Gangtok, June 21 (IPR): The Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim organized a series of events today to observe the 8th International Day of Yoga, starting off the early hours this morning with a yoga session held at M.G. Marg.
With demonstrators Shri Bhanu B. Chapagai from the Sports & Youth Affairs Department and Mohammed Sohail Khan from Kendriya Vidyalaya, the group yoga demonstration had the participation of Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Shri G.P. Upadhyaya, and Secretary, Shri Prakash Chettri, along with officers and staff from the Tourism Department and other stakeholders.
The yoga session was followed by a heritage walk that commenced from New Rumtek Monestry and culminated at Old Rumtek Monastery. The ACS, Tourism, and Tourism officials including other participants were also accompanied by monks from Rumtek Monastery.
The main highlight of the day-long event was the plantation drive held at the Old Rumtek Monastery and IHM premises by the officials of the department.
The ACS, Tourism Department extended gratitude to all the participants for their great enthusiasm and cooperation in making the event a grand success. He urged all to incorporate yoga into their daily lives keeping in view the IYD 2022 theme “Yoga for Humanity” for a healthy harmony of body, mind, and soul.
