The District level Livestock Show

Gangtok, October 7 (IPR): Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Shri Kailash Choudhary addressed a press conference at Adampool, East Sikkim, today. The Union Minister was present as the chief guest at the District level Livestock Show organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Sikkim.
Addressing the media, Minister Shri Choudhary said that the Government of India has laid great emphasis on the overall development of the North Eastern region of India. He said that the Government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has ensured that the biggest challenge of connectivity has been addressed to a good extent, and efforts are being made to transfer all the developmental schemes and technological support to the region. He further said that schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana are being successfully implemented in the region. The Minister added that the Government of India is further encouraging the States to facilitate the formation of Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) in each Block. Likewise, the Government of India has been providing financial support to the States in areas like processing, packaging, marketing and value addition of agricultural produce.
The Minister of State lauded the initiatives being taken by the Government of Sikkim in the field of agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry. He said that the livestock show is a unique initiative to support and honour the farming community, as well as to encourage the youth to embrace this sector. He stressed that the agriculture sector should be made more attractive for the educated youth.
Shri Choudhary also spoke about the focus being laid by the Government of India on the North East Region for the cultivation of Oil Palm. He said that this is being taken up on Mission mode because of the suitability of North Eastern States for Oil Palm Cultivation, to meet the high demand of oil in the country. He added that the Mission will also be implemented in Sikkim, along with all the other North Eastern States. He said that this will be a huge step towards self-sustainability and realizing the vision of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.
The Minister concluded his address by stating that the State of Sikkim will continue to receive the guidance and support of the Government of India in all areas of agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry
