The valedictory function of the two-day State Level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition organized by State Council of Educational Research and Training

Gangtok, May 12 (IPR): The valedictory function of the two-day State Level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition organized by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Sikkim in collaboration with NCERT at DIET, Lower Burtuk, Gangtok was held today.
Minister for Education Department, Shri. Kunga Nima Lepcha graced the programme as the chief guest, along with Principal Secretary, Education Department, Shri. R. Telang as the guest of honour.
At the outset, the chief guest and other officials made a visit to the exhibition stalls and interacted with the students.The theme of the exhibition was “Technology and Toys.”
Thereafter, the dignitaries were escorted to the dais for the valedictory function.
Assistant Professor, SCERT, Dr. Mahendra Tamang apprised that the programme aimed at creating a platform for students to exhibit their ideas in the field of Science, Mathematics and Environment.
Joint Director, SCERT, Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari said that SCERT has been organising such programmes to guide students to grow and excel in the activities of their interest. He apprised that thirty six schools from all the districts participated in the event, out of which top ten schools were selected for the Eastern India Science Fare in Kolkata.
Two DIET teams also exhibited their teaching and learning materials.
Faculty, SCERT, Shri. Suraj Kumar Sharma gave a brief presentation about the Exhibition and said this event will be a forum for the students to showcase their innovative ideas. He also said, the themes for the event were, eco-friendly, environment, software apps and modelling.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, Education Department, Shri. R. Telang said that practical sessions in such fields is an important aspect and he also appealed to the students to focus on their observation skills as well.
Minister for Education Department, Shri. Kunga Nima Lepcha said that there should be ample opportunities for students in the form of interactive sessions with faculties of concerned Departments. He expressed his gratitude to SCERT for organising the event and appreciated the students for showing such dedication towards the subjects.
Thereafter, the chief guest presented awards and certificates to the winners and participants of the two-day exhibition.
The top ten winners were acknowledged with certificates and trophies out of which, 1st prize winner was from the Melli Aching Sr. Secondary School (West Sikkim), 2nd prize winner was Machong Sr. Secondary School and 3rd prize winner was Rumtek Sr. Secondary School.
