Village Level Children’s Parliament was organised in Toong -Naga GPU

Mangan, 16th Oct: Today the District Child Protection Unit, North in coordination with Village level Child Protection Committee of Toong -Naga GPU, Mangan Block organised the formation of Village Level Children’s Parliament in Toong -Naga GPU for children from Naga and Manul Govt Sec Schools.
The program started with the welcome address and role of Child Welfare Committee(CWC) in the protection of children by Smt. Mingma Doma Bhutia, Chairperson, CWC, North. Ms.Eeptisha Rai, ORW, DCPU ? introduced the child protection scheme under Social Justice &Welfare Dept and various other acts made for the protection of child rights. Then the Rights of Children were explained through an interactive space game conducted by Ms.Phuphu Doma Bhutia, Counsellor DCPU(N).
Thereafter Smt.Wendy Lepcha, DCPO, North explained the roles and responsibilities of each Minister of the Village level Child Parliament and the purpose of forming the Parliament and facilitated the elections in a sociocratic method for the various posts of Ministries based on the Sustainable Development Goals. She also informed the gathering on how A Prime Minister of Village level Child Parliament of Hee Gyathang GPU, Ms Pemkit Lepcha, is now the PM of National Inclusive Children’s Parliament. Then after the election and formation of the Parliament, the Panchayat President-cum- Chairperson, Village level Child Protection Committee of the GPU, Shri Sonam Tshering Lepcha, administered the oath and also informed the children of the child-friendly room in the GPK and invited the Parliamentarians to participate in the upcoming Gram Sabha. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Bikash Mangar, SW, DCPU(N). The program was conducted with due adherence to the COVID19 guidelines with hand sanitizers and masks provided at the entry of the GPK and also they were informed of the importance of hygiene, sanitation and social distancing during the pandemic.
